***UPDATE MARCH 2019***Just don't know what to make of this
***Latest update*** has brought it down to 1 star. Which is unfortunate, because I really really wanted to like this pedal. It had so much tonal range it was great. Until it wasn't...lol. While the pedal chassis is solid, The internal components are very cheap materials that don't last. While Playing the other night in my man cave, I simply knelt down to flick the mid cut switch and the entire thing came out. Not that it had just loosened up and came out, nope, the metal(plastic?) part has actually broken in half. When I first got it (if you've read the other review) the knobs didn't work properly and I couldn't really discern the octave up when it was active so that may be a malfunction of just this one pedal, not sure.I just don't know what to make of this pedal. I'll run through the various aspects of the one I received. 1st off, the paint and graphics are awesome. They're not cheap and do not come off with light to medium abrasion. Pretty sure the green is powder coat. Next, the "fuzz"...the fuzz and tone in my opinion are awesome and the dials provide a very wide range(at least this particular pedal does) which, again in my opinion allow me to dial in tones ranging from germanium fuzz to silicon, pure awesomeness. The "mid cut" switch is pretty slick as well as it really defines the mid spectrum and lets you scoop or dump a little to all of the mids.Ok now for some negatives. On the pedal I received the fuzz dial has normal range of motion and movement only about 1/4 of the time. The other 3/4 of the time, as I turn the dial it randomly gets tighter and tighter just like it's a screw thats being tightened down rather than pot that's turning freely. The only other negative I have and it's a big one unfortunately, is with the octave switch. As far as I can tell, it basically does...nothing.! It may just be this pedal but I'm not sure. I can hear it apply a very slight amount of positive octave shift in tone but only very slight and not in the correct way that it should . I've seen, heard, own, and have played many a fuzz/octave pedal in my day and understand what they do and how they are supposed to sound(fuzz is my favorite effect for guitars), and this one just doesn't cut it. So that's it for now and to recap: IMO the pedal looks cool, it's built like a brick shiz house, the Fuzz is pretty darn good or better than good in fact, when working properly. But having a bad volume pot or dial that randomly tightens itself and an octave setting that isn't... Do you even fuzz bro? lol

I've only had this pedal for a few days, and I'm not a gigging guitarist, but at present, I am loving this pedal. I've always wanted a fuzz to mess around with, but didn't want to shell out good money for a pedal I would only stomp on occasionally. This pedal fit my desires: Low price, seems durable and reliable, and most of all, excellent tone.

I have played with a few different Fuzz Face pedals, and some sound more organic than this pedal, but for the price, this pedal sounds wonderful. The octave up effect is very slight, but it gives your fuzz tone more breadth and brightens it up just a touch. In particular, I like the mids toggle switch. It seems to affect the upper mids, so I switch it off when I use a bright guitar (like a Strat), and switch the mids on when I use a thicker, darker guitar (like a Les Paul), so this pedal is versatile in that it can sculpt the fuzz tone according to your setup and preferences, whereas some pedals kinda need a certain set up to sound their best.

If you want a fuzz, period, consider this pedal. I've heard of some Joyo pedals not lasting long, if this happens to me, I will update this review. But for the price, you're getting a lot of bang for the buck, and if the pedal dies after a while, I'll just get another one. Rock on!!

I saw a YouTube video with this pedal on a guitar and as usual there were no bass demos. I figured as low as the price was I'll get it and try it on my bass. I know it sounds good on guitar so if I didn't like it I would just have another guitar pedal. When I received it I plugged in a bass ('93 Fender MIM P bass) and tried to have no preconceived ideas about what I though it should sound like. I was able to get anything from dirty sludgy sounds to really tight fuzz that sounded almost like it had a gate on it keeping the notes from slurring into each other. I really liked that. I was able to get good usable sounds with the mids switch both off and on and with the octave switch off or on. I tried it in front of a boss phase shifter, DOD delay and an old Digitek reverb pedal (yes verb on bass lol) and it played well with the other pedals and made some really cool sounds. This is definitely not a pedal I would use often on bass but it will have it's place in my music and I'm looking forward to using it on synth. Overall it's a fun sturdy pedal and I'm happy I bought it.

This pedal has great fuzz, and a lot of possible tone combinations. The price is also excellent. Took off a star because of what happens when you press either button to activate the fuzz ("total bypass" or "Octave,") Depending on the day and i don't what else, the noise, static, hum, crackles, that comes out of the amp when there is no signal from the guitar ranges from annoying to excessively loud. Could be pedal placement on the board (it's last before the amp), could be power source, could be too close to the amp, could be the phase of the moon. I don't know, but it is bothersome. Otherwise, great pedal and does what it's supposed to.

5.0 out of 5 stars espectacular con un Rolan JC-40
Reviewed in Spain on December 21, 2018

5.0 out of 5 stars Way cheaper, way smaller, sturdier, and way more versatile than my Big Muff Pi.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 29, 2016
This pedal is fantastic. I’ve used (and loved) my full sized Big Muff Pi for a couple of years now, but this Joyo pedal has immediately taken its place as my go-to. The fuzz is deliberate, thick, brash and can be quite harsh when turned all the way up. It does everything from light distortion, through to bit-cruncher & lo-fi type sounds.

The tone range is unbelievable - manipulated by a tone knob and mid cut switch. It can go from thick and low ‘muffled’ sounds through to high end ‘squealing’ with the ‘Octave Up’ feature, which works best on higher string lead/solos. Whether you’re playing classic Hendrix, Zep, Kravitz or more modern and heavy stuff like Fu Manchu, Kyuss, QOTSA or Clutch - this pedal will give you the tone you’re after, providing you’re willing to spend some time finely tuning it.

At under £30 this is unbeatable value and great build quality. My only niggle is that - like all Joyo pedals - the footswitches are quite harder than most other pedals. Way cheaper, way smaller, sturdier, and way more versatile than my Big Muff Pi.
