I have played with a few different Fuzz Face pedals, and some sound more organic than this pedal, but for the price, this pedal sounds wonderful. The octave up effect is very slight, but it gives your fuzz tone more breadth and brightens it up just a touch. In particular, I like the mids toggle switch. It seems to affect the upper mids, so I switch it off when I use a bright guitar (like a Strat), and switch the mids on when I use a thicker, darker guitar (like a Les Paul), so this pedal is versatile in that it can sculpt the fuzz tone according to your setup and preferences, whereas some pedals kinda need a certain set up to sound their best.
If you want a fuzz, period, consider this pedal. I've heard of some Joyo pedals not lasting long, if this happens to me, I will update this review. But for the price, you're getting a lot of bang for the buck, and if the pedal dies after a while, I'll just get another one. Rock on!!
I just don't know what to make of this pedal. I'll run through the various aspects of the one I received. 1st off, the paint and graphics are awesome. They're not cheap and do not come off with light to medium abrasion. Pretty sure the green is powder coat. Next, the "fuzz"...the fuzz and tone in my opinion are awesome and the dials provide a very wide range(at least this particular pedal does) which, again in my opinion allow me to dial in tones ranging from germanium fuzz to silicon, pure awesomeness. The "mid cut" switch is pretty slick as well as it really defines the mid spectrum and lets you scoop or dump a little to all of the mids.
Ok now for some negatives. On the pedal I received the fuzz dial has normal range of motion and movement only about 1/4 of the time. The other 3/4 of the time, as I turn the dial it randomly gets tighter and tighter just like it's a screw thats being tightened down rather than pot that's turning freely. The only other negative I have and it's a big one unfortunately, is with the octave switch. As far as I can tell, it basically does...nothing.! It may just be this pedal but I'm not sure. I can hear it apply a very slight amount of positive octave shift in tone but only very slight and not in the correct way that it should . I've seen, heard, own, and have played many a fuzz/octave pedal in my day and understand what they do and how they are supposed to sound(fuzz is my favorite effect for guitars), and this one just doesn't cut it. So that's it for now and to recap: IMO the pedal looks cool, it's built like a brick shiz house, the Fuzz is pretty darn good or better than good in fact, when working properly. But having a bad volume pot or dial that randomly tightens itself and an octave setting that isn't... Do you even fuzz bro? lol

The tone range is unbelievable - manipulated by a tone knob and mid cut switch. It can go from thick and low ‘muffled’ sounds through to high end ‘squealing’ with the ‘Octave Up’ feature, which works best on higher string lead/solos. Whether you’re playing classic Hendrix, Zep, Kravitz or more modern and heavy stuff like Fu Manchu, Kyuss, QOTSA or Clutch - this pedal will give you the tone you’re after, providing you’re willing to spend some time finely tuning it.
At under £30 this is unbeatable value and great build quality. My only niggle is that - like all Joyo pedals - the footswitches are quite harder than most other pedals. Way cheaper, way smaller, sturdier, and way more versatile than my Big Muff Pi.
