You may be able to use the Joyoung machine successfully by never making more than one batch of soy milk at a time, and allowing the machine to cool down completely before you make a second batch. It is excessive heat that caused the failure in mine, and I was running it two times in close succession, which was probably just too much for the badly-designed circuitry to tolerate.
The review below has a lot of info that can be applied to other soy milk makers, so despite my disappointment in this particular machine, you might get some useful information about making soy milk from the review.Read more ›
Just note that the bonus soybean pack is quite small, but I did not mind it since soy beans are relatively inexpensive.
Made also tofu with it once and enjoyed the fresh taste.
Highly recommend to anyone who love to drink soy milk. Wish I knew about this product long ago.
1. The higher priced soymilk makers all actually make less amount of soymilk (1.3L) compared to the cheaper ones like this (1.6L). Although 300 cc is just half a cup but it can all add up.
2. Some higher priced makers are labeled "Easy Clean", and I worried if this one will be harder to clean because it's not labeled that way; fear not, it's not particularly hard to clean. It does need some light brushing, but if you clean it within five minutes after it's done and before the soybean particles solidify on the metal stems/heating loops, you can easily remove them. I don't think paying $40 to get an "Easy Clean" one that makes less soymilk is needed to me.
3. The amount of soymilk made is good for drinking and can last about two days in my house but to make tofu, you need roughly two times that volume (or else you make a tiny tufu that was half the size of the usual packaging in Asian grocery stores; cute but not very worthy of the hassle going into making it!) This is why I decided to buy another one so I can make my own tofu with enough soymilk at once.
4. Finally, for a "made in China" home appliance, I wasn't expecting the higher quality of the soymilk maker I received.Read more ›
I'm a lazy person in the kitchen. I hate to use complicated machines and clean up a big mess but this thing is very easy to use and clean.
I tried soy, almond and red bean so far. I'm planing to make some rice drink. I put the drink in the fridge and they last a week. I don't like plan so I add a little honey. They taste sooooo much better than store bought and no added chemicals.
Btw, you have to soak the almonds long enough. My parents in law only soaked them for two hours and it didn't come out right. I'm too lazy to watch the timer. I just soak them over night and use in the morning.
I an very happy and wish I had bought it sooner.
This is a great device!
You can use dry beans or soak them 8+ hours, soaked beans work better, but it is no problem if you don't have the time to wait.
After nearly 1 year of use the unit smoked, went pop and stopped working, I called the toll free number and they had me box it up and send it to the warehouse in Provo Utah. They fixed it and returned it promptly. That was over 12 months ago and still working well.
