I started reading the stories of Sherlock Holmes as a child. I re-read them again when I was in my teens, and yet again as an adult. I always appreciated the logic and deductions made by Holmes, but it was not until I was an adult that I realized the importance of Dr. John Watson. Without Watson, Sherlock might never have solved a case. What I didn't see in reading the canon was the history concerning the plight of women that, unfortunately, persists until this day. It is the addition of Lucy James to the team of Holmes and Watson that brings the lesser value given women's knowledge and opinions to the fore. Anna Elliot makes this apparent in the subtle way that, in my opinion, only a woman will. Men who completely support the feminist movement may be grumbling at that, but, even as a feminist, I grant that there are differences between the sexes. The canon of Sherlock Holmes may be crime fighting and mystery, but it is also a glimpse into history.
If you've been reading this series in order, you will find that this appears to be the culmination of an international mystery that spans the previous books. As with all things, I am skeptical that this is completely true, but I do hope that the criminals throughout these tales will no longer continue their devious deeds.
Once again the daughter and father team of Anna Elliott & Charles Veley have joined forces to create a seamless accounting from the points of view of both Lucy James and Dr. John Watson. The addition of Detective Constable Jack Kelly and his young sister Becky seem to be permanent presences. They have fit into the narrative quite nicely.
I continue to enjoy these stories and find them most bingeworthy. If you read the blurbs, you know what the relationship between Holmes and Miss James is, but if you don't read them, I continue to encourage the reading of these tales from the first book, THE LAST MORIARTY, to fully appreciate what is happening here.

Editorial Reviews
Review
"Another deftly crafted and riveting read by the team of Anna Elliott and Charles Veley, "The Jubilee Problem" will prove to be a 'must' read for the legions of Sherlock Holmes fans and does full justice to the famous detective created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle." Midwest Book Review
Praise for the Sherlock and Lucy Series!
"Fans of Holmesian stories, historical fiction, and Victorian romance will all find something to enjoy in the Sherlock Holmes & Lucy James Mystery Series." -- Critical Blast
This series of Sherlock Holmes retellings is a joy to read and proves a worthy addition to the Holmesian canon. In a word . . . fun!
dannii.elle.reads (Instagram)
"It might be difficult to imagine the original Holmes even having an offspring -- much less one he accepts as an investigating partner. Still, the authors make it seem plausible, and for readers who are not purists but rather pleased to see a hint of warmth coming from Holmes, [the Sherlock & Lucy series] is a new way to enjoy Sherlockian mysteries." -- The Santa Barbara Independent
"Elliott (the Twilight of Avon trilogy) and Veley, her father, collaborate on the winning third mystery pairing Sherlock Holmes and his daughter, Lucy James. Readers will look forward to Lucy's further adventures." -- Publishers Weekly (Remember, Remember: A Sherlock Holmes & Lucy James Mystery, Book 3)
"Fans of Holmesian stories, historical fiction, and Victorian romance will all find something to enjoy in the Sherlock Holmes & Lucy James Mystery Series." -- Critical Blast
"[Lucy James is an] independent, strong feminist young woman who is unafraid to take care of herself even in very uncomfortable situations. This fact alone sets [The Sherlock & Lucy series] apart from most Regency historicals or other Sherlock Holmes mysteries. Women are generally damsels in distress, but not Lucy!" -- Tynga's Reviews
"I absolutely loved Remember, Remember and think it's the perfect book for Sherlock Holmes fans, as well as mystery lovers. I cannot praise this book and its authors enough for this well written and imaginative story." - The Nerdy Girl Express
"Reading this novel was a very delightful way to spend an afternoon. Remember, Remember will not only appeal to fans of Sherlock Holmes, but also to those who love The Secret Life Anna Blanc, The Beekeeper's Apprentice, and A Curious Beginning. - History from a Woman's Perspective
"Elliot's writing style is solid and easy to become absorbed in. She gives Lucy a strong narrative voice, which caused the plot to both flow well and pack a punch. Her world building of 1897 London is vivid and skilled, making it a very high point of the novel. She unravels the mystery at a steady pace, showing her talent for creating a storyline that hooks her readers and keeps them wanting more. [...] A very fun story, and an inventive take on some very timeless classics." - The Quirky Book Nerd
From the Author
We're focusing on two very different levels with this adventure.
The main story takes place on an epic level. The Queen's Jubilee in 1897 presented the century's greatest political spectacle, and the villain is as dark and evil as they come. A huge challenge for Sherlock and Lucy, and a huge impact, considering the scope of the three disasters they must prevent.
But the relationships between Sherlock, Lucy, Jack, and Watson provide the emotional level that underpins the story. The Baker Street team aren't risking their lives for a triumphant parade. They're not only working for justice; they're working for each other. Those relationships continue to be the base for the stories that follow.
Now here's some information about the historical people and places we used for this third installment in the Sherlock and Lucy Mystery Series. We hasten to add our usual disclaimer, of course: "This is a work of fiction, and the authors make no claim that any of the historical locations or historical figures appearing in this story had even the remotest connection with the adventures recounted herein."
However . . .
1. March 15, 1898, The London Gazette published an "Extraordinary" edition describing the events of Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee that had begun in June 1997 and continued throughout the year. The level of detail in this publication is indeed extraordinary. One may read of the three committees responsible for preparations and the names of their members, the timetables for the hundreds of events, the names of the guests at each luncheon and dinner, the names of the occupants of the seventeen carriages in the Queen's parade to the Thanksgiving Service at St. Paul's Cathedral, and the names of the military men who escorted them.
2. We drew inspiration from a note on the celebrations of June 22: "Owing to the admirable police arrangements made by Colonel Sir Edward Bradford, K.C.B, of the Metropolitan Police, and Colonel Henry Smith, C.B., of the City Police, there was not the slightest disturbance or disorder during the day, which passed off almost free from accidents."
3. Details from the Duchess of Devonshire's Ball would have been impossible for the authors to attempt without the fascinating and most informative book of that name by Lady Sophia Murphy, daughter of the Eleventh Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. Descriptions of the costumes at the event, including the costume of HRH The Prince of Wales, are taken from the text and photographs therein.
4. The description of Cragside is based on materials made available by The National Trust.
5. The Waterloo and City line was indeed constructing the Bank station of the London underground railway during the time of this story. However, there is no record of any associated breach of security or attempt to compromise the structure of the Bank of England.
6.Part of Lansdowne House still stands near Berkeley Square in Central London. Since 1935, a portion of that structure has been the home of the Lansdowne Club. From its inception the Club has admitted 'members of social standing,' including women.
7. Devonshire House was demolished in 1924. An office building named Devonshire House stands on the site. The wrought-iron entrance gates remain, standing between Green Park and Piccadilly.
8. Thanks to surface restorations and improved air quality in London, the exterior of St. Paul's Cathedral appears far brighter than it did in 1897. Within the crypt level there is now a fashionable café and restaurant.
From the Back Cover
Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James, his lovely young American daughter, must finally unmask the traitor who has crossed swords with them in their previous adventures.
Their secret adversary is now masterminding a well-orchestrated conspiracy to destroy Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee Celebration. Sherlock and Lucy must defeat their murderous enemy or the Queen and thousands of innocent people will die, and the British Empire will fall into chaos.
About the Author
CHARLES VELEY
has loved Sherlock Holmes since boyhood. As a father, he read the entire canon to his then-ten-year-old daughter at evening story time. Now this very same daughter, grown up to become acclaimed historical novelist Anna Elliott, has worked with him to develop new adventures in the Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James Mystery Series!
Charles is also a fan of Gilbert & Sullivan, and wrote The Pirates of Finance, a new musical in the G&S tradition that won an award at the New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2013. Other than the Sherlock & Lucy series, all of the books on his Amazon Author Page were written when he was a full-time author during the late Seventies and early Eighties.

ANNA ELLIOTT
is an author of historical fiction and fantasy. Her first series, the Twilight of Avalon trilogy, is a retelling of the Trystan & Isolde legend. She wrote her second series, The Pride & Prejudice Chronicles, chiefly to satisfy her own curiosity about what might have happened to Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Darcy, and all the other wonderful cast of characters after the official end of Jane Austen's classic work.
She enjoys stories about strong women, and loves exploring the multitude of ways women can find their unique strengths. She was delighted to lend a hand with the Sherlock & Lucy series, and this story, firstly because she loves Sherlock Holmes as much as her father does, and second because it almost never happens that someone with a dilemma shouts, "Quick, we need an author of historical fiction!"
Anna lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and four children.

Historical YA mystery with a solid base on Sherlock Holmes. Interestingly and intricately plotted. Characters are well drawn. Clean, interest-keeping, and keeps a reader wanting more. My first for this author and series and I’ll be reading more of them.

Truly a wonderful story. Even Mr.Holmes would approve. I love the inclusion of Lucy, as she makes the story more real. The almost romance of her and the copper is so fragile, but constantly moving forward. Dr. Watson plays into the scene as well as brother Mycroft. Such a group can win against the monsters of that day.

I wasn’t sure I was going to finish this book after the first few pages, but I’m glad I did. Besides Holmes, Watson, and Lucy, there were other interesting characters. I like the many twists and turns of the story.

Holmes' new adventures with Watson and his daughter Lucy are a delight to read. Once again Holmes and his associates are called upon to save the country, this time for Victoria's Jubilee Celebration. The mystery is well written, as are all the characters. It's a delight to be back in the foggy London with Holmes on the hunt again!

This was my first time to read the Holmes books written in the 21st century. I was not disappointed! This was so refreshing and carried out the style of Doyle's works to the tee. Great writing and great story. Thanks.
