In "Total War" a radical pro-democracy group (part of Wagner's genius is the ability to make the pro-democracy faction the bad guys) conducts a bombing campaign against the judges. The first story is a Greek tragedy about a woman who falls for the wrong guy and a terrorist who decides, too late, to get out. The last story is almost a horror story about an amnesia victim who sees flashes of the future. In the middle we have an epic story where Total War plants nuclear bombs across Mega City One and threatens to detonate them unless the judges leave. And, slight spoilers, the Judges do not catch them in time. It has future detective work, action, drama and terror. It feels very much like Judge Dredd's post-September 11 story but still works as its own thing.
I really admire what Wagner and other writers have done with Dredd and this is another fine addition to the pantheon.
