Like Backlash, Mega City Justice also contains several related stories that line up with the arc, setting up Dredd's time in setting up the Mutant townships and the scheming of Judge Sinfield back in the city to become acting chief judge while he keeps Chief Judge Fransisco in the hospital. A good chunk of this storyline, "The Talented Mayor Ambrose", involves the attempted assassination of Sinfield by PJ Maybe (who has been masquerading as the mayor), which sets the momentum for Dredd's own entrance back into the city. All the stories within were enjoyable and entertaining to me, I greatly enjoyed the whole collection featured in the book. The work by Wagner is great, as are the artwork by all the artists.
As for the book itself, like with Backlash it is printed on a good quality glossy paper. The art has been transferred over without error (as far as I could tell) and the editing was done well on the included stories. I appreciate that like with Backlash, a great deal of stories was included instead of selectively editing some out.
I realize that from the capsule description there isn't much new there. Judge Dredd has dealt with the Cursed Earth and corrupt judges since the 70s. But this is really, really well done. For years writer John Wagner has been developing Dredd's character and this is part of the payoff. Dredd has come to fight for both democracy (in a quite limited form) and mutant rights and this story forces him to confront his fellow judges over these principles. It also continues the story of long-standing characters like Judge Hersey and Judge America 'Ami' Beeny. By the end Dredd is forced to do the unthinkable and seek election as Chief Justice, a title he has always refused.
The artists are some of the best who have ever worked on Dredd. We have Colin MacNeil, Carlos Ezquerra and John Higgins all turning in great work.
I've read a lot of Dredd over the last few years and this is one of the best I've seen. It's hard to find in the US but well-worth the $36 I paid for it.

( I even stopped playing world of tanks till it was finished - which lets you know how absorbed i was of the story told inside )
