This documentary is very entertaining and yet quite riveting. IMHO it should be nominated for an Oscar under documentaries. Robert Bryce masterfully tells a story that cuts through the typical noise and politics associated with climate change and the energy transition. He easily asks simple but thought-provoking questions to people from all walks of life about what electricity means to them. The film lays bare what really matters and how access to electricity ultimately shows how people without electricity struggle, while those with access can prosper.
The film doesn't take sides as one might expect in such a documentary. Instead, it exposes the pros and cons of extreme positions, often political, being taken regarding how we generate electricity. These include shutting down nuclear power plants and replacing them with gas-fired power plants or wind/solar in the future. As an energy and environmental professional and university educator, I highly recommend this film to students of energy, environment and international affairs who are wary of following socially safe or politically correct positions regarding climate change and the global energy transition. Anyone who truly wants to stress test their core beliefs on the topic will come away with a better perspective. I know I certainly have.
