There is a lot of controversy surrounding this dietary supplement. The manufacturer claims that their product is the next best thing to eating fruits and vegetables, and that it picks its fruit and veggies at their peak ripeness, and then they use a proprietary process to reduce them to a powder containing much of the original vitamins and nutrients, while maintaining high bio-availability (which means that your body is able to use and take advantage of the nutrients instead of excreting most of it as waste).

Many scientific studies, however, claim to disprove, or have produced conflicting results to, many of the manufacturer's claims about the product (see the "Product Research" section on Juice Plus' Wikipedia page: [...]. It doesn't help that the main product distribution process is through the use of multi-level marketing (aka pyramid scheme), and that many reviewers/commenters giving it 5 stars are also re-sellers of this product who always seem to want to send you to their personal website for more information about the product. FYI: I, personally, have not, do not, and do not plan to sell Juice Plus+.

Before I knew any of this information, though, our Lamaze coach recommended it as a convenient way for my pregnant wife to make sure that the fetus (and my wife) would get as many vital nutrients as possible. Of course, nothing compares to eating fresh fruits and vegetables, but it's not always possible to eat as many as JuicePlus claims to contain.

I have personally used Juice Plus off and on over the past couple years, and I've found that, when I take it regularly for a couple weeks (morning and night, not all 4 capsules at once), most of the tension in my neck and shoulders disappears, which is amazing. So, what's the main catch?

The four stars are for the product. But for the crazy price you have to pay due to the multi level marketing for them gets zero stars. But more importantly and that aside, here is what I can tell you.

I took Juice Plus for almost three years when I worked part-time for a chiropractor. One of the benefits of being an employee was I got the dosages I needed for free or at cost/discounted so cost was rarely an issue. I took it because I have Fibromyalgia and other autoimmune issues and was also going through cancer surgery and treatment. And while eating the proper amount of organic fruits and veggies is best when your not feeling well enough to eat, or nauseated, or simply in too much pain/nausea/fatigue to do this you need some supplemental help. This helped a lot. Tasty and when I forgot to take them or we ran out I could tell the difference. The current chiro I do work for now no longer orders them due to the rising expense and recently being diagnosed with adrenal issues and not always being able to keep up with getting enough organic fruits/veggies down at times I looked into ordering them myself as they did help me once upon a time. This cost is outrageous. If they made it more affordable I would order based on my past positive experience. I don't think at all they are the total answer to getting what you need in your diet and certainly one never knows completely if the process used is the best, but they did make me feel better and I wish I could afford them right now.

First and foremost I would suggest taking Juice Plus to anyone as I've always benefited from its health benefits over the past 15 years.

My problem is with the seller Salk trading of KY. My reasoning is: Juice Plus always arrives in boxes with a 3 month supply in each box. Salk Trading advertised Juice Plus on Amazon for $49.99 would be a great deal for a 3 month supply as its usually $100. I purchased 2 orders for $99.98 thinking I would be getting a 6 month supply. Much to my dismay, a 2 month supply arrived for my $100 which is a 33% mark up on the regular price. Seems as if Salk Trading buys Juice Plus, repackages it in smaller quantities, advertises at 50% off on Amazon, and then sells at a 33% mark up. Do not buy Juice Plus from Salk, its a rip off and seems unethical.

I've taken the product for a couple of years, and I used to get the amount of pills that I could use, moderated by my salesrep. Sometimes I cannot take all of these pills, so she would hold off the shipment for a few weeks. Suddenly, that stopped. The pills just keep on coming, and coming, and coming. Interestingly, my other family members started taking them too, but we still wound up with a backlog of six "sets" of pill bottles. So I called Juice Plus directly to close the account. At least for a while. I had authorized direct billing to my Visa card for a couple years, without a hitch, I have good credit. Suddenly we started getting phone calls constantly from a collection agency on my answer machine, which I figured was some scam, since I have great credit and no outstanding bills. Then I get a bill in the mail from a collection agency, and I call them to figure out whats going on. They said my visa card billing wasn't accepted, they were using a number of a card that I don't even have anymore, but I've been receiving bills on the current visa card. I don't know what happened, but I paid the bill right away, and I am extremely pissed off that Juice Plus went directly to a collection service instead of contacting my sales rep, or me, about whatever glitch they had. Even though I like the product, it is highly unlikely that I will ever sign up for their automatic pill delivery and billing, ever again. There are no communications or controls.
