“Julian and Lia” casts a spell that is difficult to resist. And really, you shouldn’t. You just buy it and read it. This is New Adult done right. It kept me up into the night and if I hadn’t forced myself to put it down, I would have read until morning. It’s just that good.
It tells the story of two college students who share a film studies class. Lia is inexperienced, but curious. She’s never thought much of her looks, but once she does put in an effort, she’s a knockout. A freshman in college in Maine, she’s smart and gets good grades. But there’s more to her than these standard tropes. She owns her sexuality, even if she doesn’t realize it. She is smart about it and ends up as a very original character.
Julian is 21 years old. He is surly and withdrawn, a bit of a wiseass, but quite intelligent. He is dark haired, green-eyed, muscled, and hot. Something is going on under that hoodie and you want to find out what it is. And you want to find it out NOW.
Lia feels an overwhelming attraction to Julian, which is returned, but he holds himself in check, since she let it spill that she’s a virgin. But little by little, they can’t resist each other. And THAT story is one you want to read.
You would think that this good girl-bad boy dynamic would feel familiar, but here, it doesn’t. It feels fresh and new.
Oh, and HOT. Very hot. Wow.
Maria Monroe has a gift for highlighting the little things that make your blood warm up. The glance, the movement, the touch, are all described in glorious sexy detail and the care and attention to these things are what makes this book. She builds and builds the sexual tension until, well, you’ll just have to find out.
The dialogue is well-done. The things that come out of Julian’s mouth … oh my. In real life, I would probably have my heart stop. So great. Lia picks up on her roommate’s quirks of always putting a question on the end of statements, which feels true to life and is very funny.
Tight writing, seductive word choice, and compelling characters—who find themselves in increasingly sexier and sexier situations—make this a must-read. I can't wait for the next one (gnashes teeth while waiting).
5 plus stars.
Funny how you find a book, or author. I have a backlist of all sorts, but I was trailing thru amazon when I saw the ratings on it, and then the summary sounded good. Look, I'm super picky about college romances, but this, this here is different and for me brought up all kinds of real feelings of college days.
Well written and seriously I don't know how she did that in the end, now I must rush to book 2. I will be reading this authors backlog for sure.
Lia is a very smart but pretty girl and she is in her freshman at college, she has no idea what she is doing for her Major. She has been at the college for around two weeks but she still feels like she doesn't really fit in as most of the people that she passes are always with a group of people or are happily waiting for their friends to finish their classes. During one morning on her way to class she accidently bumps into a guy across campus and ends up pouring coffee all over his hoodie, after a few moments she realises that he is in her film class, she tries her hardest to not ramble on but she feels like she has only embarrassed herself but what she isn't expecting is that this is only the beginning of her encounter with the guy.
Julian is in his senior year at college and even though he is a straight A's student he is still having to retake his film class as he failed it in his freshman year. After that brief encounter with Lia he can't seem to get her out of his head and even though he won't admit that he has feelings for her, he still feels like he is drawn to her. In class he sits at the back with his beloved hoodie and stares at Lia but to him he is loving the game.
After Lia realises that she has a crush on Julian she can't seem to get him out of her head and what happens next honestly shocks her. Vanessa has taken Lia under her wing and because she has been through everything there is to know when it comes to freshman year she completely understands how Lia is feeling. What Lia didn't expect to find out about her new friend was that she is indeed Julian's twin sister and after finding that out she feels like she has to tread quietly around her because of her crush on her brother.
Things start going well for Lia and after her first college party it seems to her that she is starting to get a lot closer to Julian than she was before as he seemed to save her from that party due to the fact that she wasn't into it at all. After all the warnings that he gives her about that he's not the right guy for her and that he doesn't exactly treat girls well they both still seem drawn to each other. Lia ends up becoming the most envied and talked about girl in her dorm and that's only because she has gotten Julian's attention.
Will things go smoothly for Lia or will they end up getting more complicated than ever, and will she ever get to be with Julian or is that set for disaster before it's even began. If you want to find out what happens in this book then you should definitely read it because you have no idea what your missing.
