Format: Audio CD
Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett did their Emmy award winning special "Julie & Carol at Carnegie Hall" in 1962. At that point Andrews was the reigning musical star of Broadway with "My Fair Lady" and "Camelot" on her resume, while Burnett had enjoyed success with "Once Upon a Mattress" and her appearances on "The Gary Moore Show." Consequently, what makes this concert so wonderful is that the two stars on still on the way up, having big time fun. The track listings for "Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall" are as follows: (1) No Mozart Tonight; (2) Your So London; (3) Oh Dear What Can the Matter Be; (4) From Russia: The Nausiev Ballet; (5) Meantime; (6) From Switzerland: The Prat Family; (7) History of Musical Comedy (my favorite track); and (8) From Texas: "Big D." Note: the soundtrack for the album was recorded before a live audience BEFORE the show was taped for broadcast, so if you are fortunate enough to have the sho won videotape you are getting something a little different with this CD. This is still one of the Top 10 musical variety television specials of all time.

The complete recordings of "Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett At Lincoln Center" and "Julie & Carol: Live at Carnegie Hall" will be released on a single CD in early May and will be available on Amazon at a cost of about $14. The Lincoln Center recording has never been released on CD and the Carnegie Hall CD has been long out of print. So what a great opportunity to get both recordings on a single disc at such a reasonable price. Now if CBS would just released the actual television specials on DVD! Wow, that would really be great. Having had this on an LP record, I really didn't expect to find on a CD. So was VERY glad that I did. A truly lovely CD of bits by two pros, Carol and Julie. Only drawback, since the original wasn't stereo...neither is CD. But given that was a gazillion years ago, last century, understandable. And still a funny, and lovely CD.

Okay, so I fell in love with Julie Andrews when I was 13 or 14, what with My Fair Lady, Camelot, and then Mary Poppins and Sound of Music. I found this record of her and Carol at our small, public library, then bought myself a copy, then lost it just a few years back during a move. And voila! There it was on Amazon! What a find! Thank you, thank you! You can catch videos of some of the numbers on YouTube also!

This is a most excellent recording. Heard it many many years ago before the unfortunate Ms Andrews lost her voice. It's the best of both worlds when putting these two together, the untrained and the trained. There are some beautiful renditions of old favorites and the entire collection is to be treasured.
