Jack is happy in his little box until a spring breaks loose and he feels lost, as if he is disconnected from the only home he has ever known. He meets Barker and his world changes, as he trusts Barker to show him the world outside his box. Jack soon enjoys many new and exciting experiences that give him a sense of wonder and excitement. When Barker finds Jacks’ box, Jack decides that there are so many things to experience outside the box that he no longer needs it.
The message in this story is very strong and conveys to children that coming out of their comfort zone, and trying things they never dreamed of doing, opens up their lives to many new and exciting opportunities.
"Jump" is a charming and uplifting rhyming picture book that I recommend for both children and parents. This book shows the importance of letting children explore new things that will enrich their lives, and light a whole new spark in their imaginations
Jack does what he always does and winds himself up for a jump, and SNAP! Out of his box he goes flying!
Jack doesn’t feel right outside of his box and he’s afraid he’ll be out with tomorrow’s trash. He cannot find his box!
He goes on a great many jumping adventures with Barker, the dog, who finally reveals his box has been kept safe all this time.
Jack comes to a realization about his box, and being a Jack-in-the-box.
Every time she has a new book, I declare “This is my favourite Julia Dweck book… ever!” I manage to stay put for a while and then along she comes with a new book, and I make a fool of myself proclaiming: “No, no, no. This is the one: This is my favourite Julia Dweck book…ever!”
I have to draw the line somewhere, so today I am announcing that “Jump!” is my favourite Julia Dweck book…ever.
Yes, I know my favourite was “Where are the dinos?” Those were adorable: little dinosaurs shopping and driving and doing all these cool things. I said, and I still maintain, that the word needs to have these little cute dinos as toys. I am still waiting to buy one to put on my desk.
But… “Jump!” has an unbeatable message that “Where are the dinos?” lacks: that a crisis is an opportunity in disguise; that you can accomplish anything if you believe in yourself and that once that you have gone there, nothing will ever be the same.
The message is conveyed in an easy way for children to understand, yet, full of enough charisma to appeal to grownups.
And the illustrations done by Brian Allen are simply amazing!
So, I am saying it now (this has to stop at some point, Julia): “Jump!” is my favourite Julia Dweck book ever!
The book is available now in Amazon: read it, have a big smile and think hard and long about your life and your goals.
