2ND REVIEW (2015): I just re-read Junana to refresh my memory before getting into the sequel. The novel richly executes a wonderful premise that I would like to see come to pass in real life, unlike so many rather dystopian novels of the near future. 5 stars for the premise! I won't quite give 5 stars overall because I reserve that rating for when I can't think of any improvements, so I'd give 4.5 if fractional ratings were allowed. It would be good to have a fuller explanation of the "template unfolding" concept, which is fundamental. There are many characters, real and virtual, some of whom reappear or are re-mentioned after an absence, so it would be helpful to have a subtle reminder of who they are as they step back on stage (in particular, the introduction of Michelle references previous entities). There are a few typos or minor errors that could be edited out. Great book overall that I would like to see more widely read.
1ST REVIEW (2009): Highly recommended! This is a great first novel. The very interesting premise is thoughtfully worked out. A bit of techno-speak sprinkled here and there lends verisimilitude, but non-techies can ignore it in favor of the story.
It was a great read. If you liked Snow Crash you will love this one. I would highly recommend it.
