3.0 out of 5 starspretty lame for 2017
ByMaxPSIon March 22, 2017
I'm giving this 3 stars, for two reasons. First, the app is only available for iOS. If you have android, you're out of luck. They "hope to release Android soon." Still, pretty lame for 2017. Second, the manual cook controls are very confusing with regard to setting the timer. It's many steps, and very easy to walk away believing you've set the timer when you haven't. It would be super nice to be able to set multiple time and temperature steps, including the probe. I really want an Alexa skill for it. Fortunately, June can solve these problems with software updates, so I'm looking forward to that.
The build quality is excellent. Even the packaging is great. It comes with a cloth tote you use to pull it out of the box. It is bigger and heavier than a normal toaster oven, but happily mine fit in the same spot previously occupied by my Breville.
The temperature control is accurate, which I can't say about any other appliance I own except my sous vide. I did a 9 hour roast at 160F, which would have been effectively impossible with anything else.
In short, where even a great toaster oven is still just a toaster oven, this feels and functions like a real appliance and has quite a lot more utility than a toaster oven.
The food recognition actually does work, and the automatic cooking features seem to be pretty good. That being said, unless your diet consists entirely of the few dozen items it knows about, it's not a magic cooking device. You still have to know how to cook, which goes back to the cumbersome manual controls mentioned above. If they make the manual control better and release an Android app, I'll give 5 stars for sure.
