Elaine Carmichael has been living on the island alone for the past five years. She knows that there are many secrets on the island and a black panther, Jade, who will protect her at any cost.
As Henry and Elaine begin to get closer they soon discover that someone else is back for what is on the island and this time it's clear that the danger is higher than ever before.
This is one of those series that has me totally intrigued as I think there is so much more coming and to it that we haven't discovered yet.
I thought Henry was great and loved that he escaped New York to avoid getting married. Yet life takes an unexpected turn with the ship crashing and then he gets on the wrong side of Jade. This ultimately brings him closer to Elaine but it wasn't easy.
Elaine is such a strong woman with being on her own for so long. I can't imagine how hard life has been for her yet she survived on the island with Jade and learning about everything on the island and all the mysteries within it. Yet she also pushes Henry away when she thinks he is better off not being there as she knows who is coming back.
Judas and the rest of the pirates are interesting for sure. I found it odd that they would leave everything there as the journey could not have been easy.
The ending was shocking and so sad and I'm scared to see what's next up for Elaine and Henry!

So, The book begins.. Henry Rochester 25yrs and wealthy NY family (his overbearing mother trying to find a bride for him) takes off with his best friend, Charlie for a year at sea.. only after a couple month at sea there is a terrible storm and the ship is destroyed and Henry is the only survivor.. He has drifted on to an island where he sees a beautiful woman, Elaine. But not before he is greeted by a not so happy 'panther' Jade who attacks him.. so the story as you can see begins from page one intense and goes until the END just as intense!! I can NOT wait for book 2 and see how these two find themselves (well, no spoilers .. i will just say, read the book!!!!!! You will NOT be disappointed, you will just want MORE of Henry and Elaine!!!).
Jungle Eyes is engaging light reading, with constant motion; there are no dull moments in the story. I read it within a day or two, and enjoyed being transported to another time and place. To read it, though, the reader must suspend any notions of reality. I find it completely fanciful and improbable. Plot elements like Henry’s shipwreck are treated very lightly, as is the fact that Elaine spends so many years alone on an island at such a young age without parents to guide her. In that regard, Elaine’s temperamental interactions with Henry make a lot of sense, but the link is never drawn by the author. Fanciful elements like Elaine’s friendly relationship with a panther and Henry’s ability to navigate a ship on the Atlantic with no more than a week’s experience at sea round out the fantastical story.
Reading Jungle Eyes was a bit like watching a fun romance movie. It offered an entertaining way to spend some time, but I don’t need to do it again and I’m not so interested in the sequel. You may feel differently if you enjoy this kind of superficial, surreal love story. It’s not my usual kind of reading, and for me, this falls into the “good enough” category, and earns 3 stars.
*Many thanks to author Lindsay Marie Miller, who provided a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
