This Junie B. Jones book is about Carnival Night at school. Junie B. thinks it will be great fun, but Junie B. is so determined to win at everything that she practices and practices and practices.......and doesn't win." For any parent, friend, teacher or child who has encountered the disappointment of losing when they were sure they would win and practiced so hard to win, this is a great book. It won't make the child less competitive, but it does teach that others share the same disappointments and winning just comes easier to some in some areas.
This series is a high interest level series for primary aged children. Although the series is about a kindergartner who turns first grader, it is not just for children of that age level. Children younger enjoy having this series read to them and older children love to read these books to younger children and explain the events and characters. They are fun books even for adults who read them to children. The illustration on the front cover always grabs a child's attention and the synopsis on the back cover is written to make the child want to "find out what happens next!"
I highly recommend this series.

Disappointing damaged Birthday gift :(
Somehow the book (Junie B Jones and the Yucky Blucky Fruitcake) came damaged with a piece of the backing ripped off. Don't think it was due to packaging as the outside of package was sealed and not damaged and the rest of the books that came with it were in great condition and undamaged as well. Just that book with the backing ripped. Was sad as it was delivered to my niece on her birthday as part of her birthday gift as she loves to read these books and collecting them. Her being a very picky girl who's very protective of her books and not wanting anyone to touch them cause she doesn't want anyone to wrinkle or damage them, she was quite sad when she saw one of her favorite books ripped already before touching it or getting a chance to read it. Think the rip may have happened at warehouse before or upon packaging, not sure but hopefully they are more careful next time as these books are made of paperback. Other than that she's loves the rest of her books. Will still continue to order more.
