Editorial Reviews

Ernie and Charlie Borgman board a 29 foot Chinese Junk boat and set sail for a 1627 mile journey through the Inside Passage. The two and a half month journey takes them along the Canadian and Alaskan coast, along the Inside passage and out into the icy waters of the Gulf of Alaska. Through torrents of rain and raging waters, engine trouble and broken masts....the two men come face to face with adventure. Their true fountain of youth. This is a documentary about family, about passing along the passion of life to our children. it is the story of aging but never growing old - it is an adventure. It is life.

The story of the trip itself was pretty nice but they could have talked a bit more about they places they visited. I was, however, a touching tale of two brothers and a daughter connecting with each other. It only got a little tedious when it left out more detail about the places they visited. Historical places and interesting local characters would have been great to hear about but she stuck mostly to the family story.

I love being able to witness these two men as they go for a dream and do something a little off the beaten path. How many of us ever have the courage to step out and do that? I found this film to be inspirational on so many levels. And if you're into sailing, then it's an added bonus. The footage of Alaska and the waters they sail in are truly beautiful.

Recommend this film highly!

First and foremost this is a 'human interest' story ...a documentary with totally charming and delightful folks. But aside from the wonderfully warm people 'starring' in this film, it also has a great storyline, great scenery and shows some of the beauty of west coast Canada and south coastal Alaska. In short... a beautifully produced documentary well worth the price of admission! Kudos to Skye Borgman who filmed, narrated, co-stared as Captain Ernie Borman's crew member and ultimately produced this excellent film.

This documentary about two brothers setting out on a sailing adventure in their later years is told with heart, humor and love by the daughter of the captain of the ship. She accompanies her father and uncle on the trip and gives us a beautifully photographed and moving portrayal of family love, patience, and courage. If you want to be inspired to go for your dream, or just want to watch a charming family on a unique ship achieve theirs, this voyage is for you.

Three months of family life was given over to this wonderful trip, three people traveling on the Kwan Yin, one keeping home fires burning in Seattle and two traveling in a pick-up with an overhead camper (also a dog). The truck and ship met at different ports along Vancouver Island and Prince Rupert, B.C. before going their seperate ways, meeting again when the ship sailed into Valdez, AK harbor. I am so proud of my husband, Ernie, and daughter, Skye, for having and living the dream. How many father/daughter teams get to spend that length of quality time together? They lived the trip of a life time experiencing rough seas, seeing wild animals and sea life, meeting and conversing with local villagers and other "old salts" along the way.

For anyone who has a father and a dream this film is for you. Junk Dreams is an incredibly touching story about 2 brothers in the winter of their lives who decide to sail a junk boat along the Gulf of Alaska some 1600 miles. The journey is documented by one of the sailor's daughter who helps the men achieve their goal. For me the film was about realizing a dream no matter how old you are and being able to witness this fulfillment in your dad is so moving. I loved this movie and wished I could have shared it with my father.

This film is so endearing... an adventure with family - that's what this world should be all about.
The movie "sounds" great, too... the ocean, the natural background and the music. Great.
