Boss/Jag started out as a mean drug lord in this book. Then along came Miri and he got soft. Like "forget my drug business and problems and lets make her mine" soft. It did not suit THIS type of character, the way he was written.
Miri was a borderline clingy after talking smack a few times too many and Boss/Jag still came back for more.
Milo was a creepy sob and thought he could constantly tell his boss what wuss he was.
I would not recommend it. I will not be reading book two in this series.
Really? This is the woman he chooses? Not a woman who has her stuff together? Not a woman who maybe... is not broken.. I'm sorry, but the story is just ludicrous.
I don't plan on reading the sequel, despite the hugely open-ended cliffhanger it ended on.
It's a literary quickie.
Akin to something you'd download before a flight, will hold your attention in the air...but will be forgotten on the ground somewhere between baggage claim and curbside pickup.
This tells the story of Miri, a redheaded girl that is desperate for her next hit of heroin. Her boyfriend has not come back and she is beyond sick by this point. Miri is so desperate she does the unthinkable, she gets a ride from someone who knows where the Bossman lives, the person responsible for all the drugs that are supplied to the city where she lives. She is filthy, has not bathed for days and wears dirt like it is the color of her skin! However when one gets that desperate, there is nothing else to do except kill herself or get killed wandering around the city asking for help from no one she knows-and she knows this-nothing is free.
Bossman (Jag) can't believe it when he and his head man watch Miri stumbling all over his property! No one comes on his property and he is beyond livid. Bossman is the meanest man to live in the city where he supplies all the drugs-he has to be-at 23 years old he took out everyone to be where he is today, and he is not going take any kind of trouble from anyone-especially a junkie that is so desperate she came on to his property earning herself a death sentence.
However remembering something from his past when he looks at this girl he sees something and feels something he has not felt in way too long-regret and empathy for another human being. He brings the girl into his house and gives her a fix and then makes her take a shower as she smells so bad. He gives her something to eat and locks her into the spare bedroom. What follows is unbelievable.
Unfortunately all his men are enraged that he let a misfit into his house and if word gets out on the street it will make him look weak! As it is he has two other bosses of other cities wanting to take him out and his head man knows what a mistake this is. However Boss won't listen and demands his men do not look or say anything to the girl. Situations arise that has everything in an uproar.
There is so much feeling in this story, sadness, anger, guilt, hopelessness, and even the beginnings of caring and love. This is a dark read, and there is so much going on that the plot weaves its way around all of the characters involved. This book ends in a cliffhanger, and it is a bad situation that the book ends on so be prepared! The next book Jagger, comes out on September 27, so it won't be too bad of a wait!
I gave this book 4**** stars and will be waiting to find out what happens!
Miri never dreamed her life would take the path she is on. She is addicted to heroin. She lives for her next hit. She will do anything for it, no matter how degrading it may be. She is a junkie.
Looking for her next hit lands her in a very dangerous situation. She has gone to the Bossman, the man in charge of all the drug sales in the city, for her next fix. He would just as soon have her killed than give her a dose of his precious commodity. But something triggers within him, rather than seeing a strung out filthy junkie, he sees a human being that is worth saving... or at least saving today. He sees the regrets of his past and a way to amend some of it.
Jagger Bosman is the most ruthless drug lord to grace the city. He climbed to the top after taking out the previous drug lord at a young age. He rules his city without mercy or conscience. His commands are absolute, no room for interpretation. If one of his employees defies him or disregards his commands, they are dead within a moment. For the life of him he can't figure out why he allowed a filthy junkie to live after she entered his compound without permission.
Bossman is a peculiar man with extreme OCD and other quirks. His peculiarities came from his past. He is beyond redemption but he does have a soul. He is giving a girl a chance to live her life drug free. A life that does not belong in his world. A chance at real happiness. He will imprison her, care for her, and get her drug free. He will set her free of the world that binds her to her next fix.
Everything the Bossman does is premeditated. He does not act upon whims or spontaneity. Every decision is precisely calculated. But once Miri enters his life, his existence begins to change. His behavior is changing. It's making him look weak to his employees and his enemies.
A war is coming. Miri might get caught up his world by association rather than need.
He has to figure out what his next move will be before it's too late to control it.
The Bossman is about control.
Heather C. Leigh has started a very dark series that is almost impossible for a happily ever after for both Miri and Jagger. Their world is brutal and the strong are not going to survive. Junkie ended on a cliffhanger that will take the Broken Doll series in another direction. I can't wait to see what happens next.
