It is difficult to rate a product that cannot be compared to another.
Do they work? Yes.
The tablets are certainly a necessity if you have hard water, and they do seem to do the job. The cleaning tablets do not produce the same results, so you cannot substitute.
Descaling the Jura Capresso Automatic coffee-maker is necessary if you have hard water, which we do. Not only does our water leave white lines in the water tank (which do disappear after the descaling process) but the coffee is noticeably cooler over time. I get the best HOT cup of coffee right after a descaling was done. I do not use the filter insert, because let's face it, the darn tank is small enough as is. I don't want to have to fill it twice each morning. Also with the filter in place, the machine does not keep track of scale build-up.
Would another product work?
I suspect so, but I am too chicken to try it out. The Jura is a tad expensive to experiment with.
I suppose I could use bottled water or deionized water to make coffee with, and avoid having to use the descaling tablets, or at least cut down on the frequency of having to go through the descaling procedure, but deep down I know that's just too much to ask for BEFORE I had a cup of coffee.

If you need the descalers and find a good deal, buy in bulk, they last.

Works just as good as a water filter, but the cost is substantially cheaper. 3 months of filters runs you sixty dollars, three month of descaling tablets, about seventeen dollars. A substantial difference.

I HATE when companies do this. There really is nothing wrong with the tablets but it take THREE to make a proper descaling solution. So you are really buying 3 cycles instead of nine.

Cheaper and better to use purified water so you can descale once a year instead of every month. Coffee tastes better too.

Someone noted it left a bad flavor. This stuff is poison so rinse. I always rinse twice the recommended cycles.

Sure they are overpriced, but using the correct product on your expensive automatic coffee maker is a small price to pay to ensure that it is going to keep working. When you pay $2000 for a coffee maker, why would you try to save $5 and risk either harming or only partially cleaning it? False savings!

We LOVE our Jura! And what can you say about these, other than they do their job and they keep our machine making good coffee.
You do need to use three tablets per cleaning, so this nine-pack ends up only being useful for about three cleaning cycles. We make about 5-10 shots of espresso a day with our Jura, and a package of these lasts about eight months, so the price isn't too bad.

These are needed for any Jura Capresso machine in which you need to de-scale the water. I use a filter on my ENA3 and have found that after a year of living in my new house, my new water was much harder than my previous house. I noticed that my coffee wasn't as hot and it was coming out slow.

After some research i found that I needed to de-scale my machine due to the buildup of minerals that the Jura filters did not catch. After two sessions of de-scaling, the machine worked much better.

Each de-scaling session utilizes two tabs - there are six tabs included (two in each blister). Make sure to dissolve in a separate container with warm water prior to placing into the reservoir. I have also found that after the de-scaling process was complete, that I needed to run a full tank of water through the tap to rinse it (after the normal rinsing cycle) to remove any odd tastes.

Now that I have figured this out, i will be de-scaling my machine at least twice a year to maintain.

The product works, no doubt, but I find that after each clean, a strong and unpleasant chemical aftertaste persists. Even after several rinses, the coffee is tainted for many brews -- and we use only bottled water in the machine.

Cleans the machine very well, but could be cheaper... But, at the same time, the tablets do last for a long time so I can't complain. Works great for our Jura Impressa F9!
