While reading this book, it was on its way to a 4 star rating, despite of the somewhat corny phrasing and simplistic writing style. But, it all went horribly wrong in the end! I don't know if the author thought that if a rape was executed by a woman instead of a man that makes it "okay" or less serious, but its still RAPE! The fact that we are left with the stop of this rape by a police officer and then cut to a scene where the assailant is being "punished" later by said officer instead of jailed is sick! And to follow the sickness and make it even more twisted we are asked to believe that she would be invited to the couple's engagement party and all would be hunky-dory!! Please!!! Such a wicked, sick twist to what could have been a cute story.
I had just finished another book by Dakota Trace that I had kinda liked, 'The Chocolate Made Me Do It' so I thought I'd give something else of hers a try. Boy, was that a mistake. There's really no need to go into the story and what was wrong with it, esm4 & T. L. Clocker did a great job of doing that. But I will say it dragged out way longer then it needed to be and the last few chapters made me ill. When the raping ex showed up a the party, having been invited by the "hero" I had to stop reading. That was just WAY too sick for me.
IMO, you should run. Run far away from this book!!!
Now, I love erotic books! I love reading about BDSM.. and all that entails. What I don't agree with, is rape. And in this books, IT WAS NOT CONSENSUAL!!That's my problem with this book.
I was just downright appalled. I can't believe that the author ended a decent book like that. I've never been so disgusted with a book like this before. Honestly Dakota, you should be ashamed of yourself. Rape is not OK.. and the way you let the attacker come back as if everything is OK.. is HORRIBLE!!! I will NEVER read a book by you again!!!!
More importantly, what is she to do when one of his former lovers shows back up and wants to claim him? To make things even more challenging, they work together and live next door to each other. Isabella is definitely up for the challenge of winning what she wants but, is Seth really sure what he wants?
Just Between Friends is an erotic romance with the added benefit that you get to see two close friends come together, finally. I loved the writing and the overall plot, though I must admit I thought the last two scenes with Carmen in them were a bit too far over the top. But, those do not deter me from saying that I enjoyed the fast pace of the book and seeing how Seth will finally come to his senses. If you enjoy a fast paced erotic story about friends learning to be more to each other, then you will enjoy Just Between Friends.
