his is Jennifer Bene contribution to this amazing set of stories.
It is about OCD. It really left an impression on me and it was hard to read at times. I never really realised how extreme it can be and how much it influences and actually takes over somebody life. There are being lived by their condition.
And I can’t tell how in aw I am with Jennifer writing in this story. Her counting was spot on. Yes, I counted.
There is also a big twist in the story, but that just made it a real Jennifer Bene book.
This is Livia’s contribution to this amazing boxed set.
It features Khloe from the Black Light series. If you have read that series then you will know that Khloe struggles with an eating disorder. And while she is doing better, it is already there just under to survive ready to rear its ugly head. This story shows that every day is a struggle and that Khloe fights every minute of the day.
It is a very intense, emotional and heartbreaking story. Livia Grant does a great job getting into Khloe’s head and telling the reader what is going on in her mind.
Loops - by Toni Lemay
The last story of this Anthology and it certainly ends with a bang.
This is my first time reading this author and I loved the story. It was very intense and as the reader you are just a confused as the main character is about what is going on and what is real and not.
The mind is such a powerful thing and can create so much. Good and bad and there is only so much what a person can do to control it.
I look forward to read more from this author.
What you are getting is a book full of fantastic authors who have written a set of stories that are dealing with mental illnesses of one sort or another. None of the stories glorify the mental illness that they are dealing with, but they do give you a good look inside the head of someone who is suffering from depression, PTSD, addiction, or anxiety. You get to experience these illnesses in a way that you can't, if you don't have them yourself.
What each of these stories boils down to is someone who is living with a mental illness and who is struggling to become "normal", not that there really is a such thing as normal, other than as a setting on the dryer. These stories show the struggle that trying to accept yourself as a person with mental illness is hard and even if you do accept that and think that you are stable and under control, it can take only one bad day, one rejection, one little flash that will knock you off your stable base.
There is such a stigma surrounding mental illness. It makes it really hard for people who have mental illnesses to get the help that they need. Hopefully books like this and authors like these will help to dispell some of that stigma.
Honestly, I couldn't get enough of these stories, and I will definitely reread this book.
