How'd a perfectionist allow her world to become so messy?
For example, I study for tests weeks in advance and book reports are always completed early. Clothes are pressed and make-up meticulously applied. I'm addicted to lists - lists of future goals, pros and cons for decisions, ways to improve myself, things to buy and things to do. Mom laughs at my crazy organizational skills, but I feel at peace when everything's in order.
So how'd I let my life get so out of control?
The cowardly part of me doesn't want to take responsibility for what happened. So then I make up excuses. Watching my brother's problem get worse and dealing with my mother's unexpected condition, I tell myself, led me to do things I ordinarily wouldn't.
Could I have done something differently? Was there a way to help my brother? Could I have taken another road so I wouldn't betray my best friend?
I'm still not sure. But one thing I do know - things started changing when I met Rob Myers at the end of September.

Fifteen-year-old Jade is a perfectionist, a goal setter, and a list maker. Everything in her life is under control until circumstances spin them out of her control.
She and her friend Stephanie have conflicts to work out in their personal lives and their friendship.
Readers will relate to this story as it unfolds family issues, friendships, trust, and forgiveness.
I received a copy of this story at our local library.
But everything started to change. Her brother started having problems, both at school and at home. He started drinking and lying to their parents, causing Jade to be in the middle of the chaos. Jade's life changed when her best friend introduced her to the new guy, Rob. Sure, her best friend liked him, but Jade couldn't help feeling something toward him, too. Everything changed when problems started to rise up for Jade--and for once she did not know what to do or how to solve them.
Julie A. Gorges writes JUST CALL ME GOODY-TWO-SHOES to perfection. A fast-paced, well-developed quick read, this book will make us think about choices we have to make. Gorges creates a character where everyone feels her pain and wants to help her solve her problems. For her first novel, Gorges captivates the real teen angst that will move the reader. Don't let the size of the book fool you, because inside are some of the best words and sentences and paragraphs that you will ever read.
