Top Customer Reviews
Just Cause 3 is a....decent.... follow-up, but not great. Many of the same features from JC2 are still here, but very little is improved upon or really expanded much. Normally, I'm personally fine with a game not fixing what isn't broken, but there are some key features that were definitely lacking: Grappling somehow became harder and often unreliable, and you can't grapple as quickly or as far as in JC2. Physics and overall mechanics feel slower, and the weaponry seems inconsistent in their efficiency (I don't understand how a minigun in the hands of an enemy soilder seems to do more damage to me than when I'm using the same gun on them?). Overall, it just felt like they took a half-step back on everything except the explosions (which can be bothersome often because Rico will likely spend most of his fighting time being thrown around by them without much you can do while he's in ragdoll mode).
The main story is incredibly weak. There are many missions that seem poorly conceived and demand you essentially focus your attention on at least two different places at the same time for you to succeed. Maybe this was only challenging to a novice like me but it still felt like lots of these attack missions throw everything at you at once with very little resources.
What I'm ultimately trying to say is that JC2 was a better game for me and if any of my complaints sway you away, stick to JC2. JC3 is far from unplayable, but just marginally enjoyable.
I think I spent two maybe three days trying to get into it, but honestly the game is really too easy and the actual missions are extremely repetitive. To progress, the game requires you to take over different areas, but to do so you do the exact...same...thing, every...single...time...and there are sooo many areas to conquer! I maaaaybe got 10% of the game done before I was burnt out and bored. I do come back on the rare occasion to do goofy things with the physics and maybe strap a car to a helicopter or something.
As far as gameplay mechanics, I thought the game performed pretty well. The physics are really fun when messing around and creatively destroying things, but do that for a little while and it gets old, mainly because it doesn't really change. You start the game with 90% of the destructive mayhem power that you will ever get, so there just isn't a compelling reason to continue on just to get slightly better vehicle/weapon drops.
So at least for the full $60, I wouldn't recommend this game. If you could pick this up for $30 or less that would approach being a worthwhile purchase, but otherwise I would definitely rent this game or try a friends copy before you buy, because that might be all the time you need with this game before it is old.
After 30 hours of game play it can become repetitive. But overall, nice game with good graphics and lots of action. Patch was also released to improve game play and fix glitches.
