From Publishers Weekly
Brown's sixth Spikes & Spurs erotic western romance (after Mistletoe Cowboy) sets up immediate physical attraction between bronc riders Gemma O'Donnell and Trace Coleman. Both plan to win the national buckle in Las Vegas come December. He needs the money to buy his uncle's ranch, even though his uncle wants to give it to him; her goal is to be the second woman saddle-bronc-riding champion. Thousands of miles and a handful of rodeos separate them from their dreams. On the road, they tumble from her trailer to his in hot scenes, but romance and tension are missing. An episodic stop taking care of kids at a dude ranch pads the book. Gemma's calls and visit home between rodeos help keep series readers up to date, but new readers will be lost. Brown peppers the story with references to country singers, but even popular lyrics can't save this rapidly dwindling series. Agent: Erin Niumata, Folio Literary Management. (Dec.)
Gemma O’Donnell leases her hair salon in a small Texas town for a year to pursue her dream of winning the ProRodeo buckle for bronc riding. She has stiff competition on the circuit, especially from Trace Coleman. The last thing she needs is to be distracted by a strong mutual attraction to him. But the nomadic life brings them together into a sizzling romance. Brown unites them emotionally through a variety of situations, including chaperoning teens and caring for a baby. The rodeo generates enough conflicts to keep the romantic tension going and provides a unique setting and theme, the trials of a woman competitor. But readers will most enjoy seeing Gemma and Trace come together as a realistic couple. Brown fills a gap for readers who want sensual but not erotic romance with a good story and likable characters. Her books will continue to be popular with her fans and with readers of Linda Lael Miller. --Amy Alessio --This text refers to an alternate Mass Market Paperback edition.

She's got her eyes on the prize...
Gemma O'Donnell wasn't the first woman to win the ProRodeo buckle for bronc riding, but she was damn well going to be the second. What she didn't count on was her main competition sweeping her off her feet.
He'll do whatever it takes to win...
Trace Coleman isn't really after a title - he needs the cash prize to buy his dream ranch. But one sexy, determined cowgirl keeps getting in his way. In his effort to take her out of the running, he risks losing both the title - and his heart.
They're both in for a little surprise...
Everybody's world is turned upside down when a pint-size bundle of joy gets dropped right into Trace's lap...and suddenly all the stakes are higher.
Gemma is bound and determined to win that money. She wants her own farm. Even if her friend has predicted that she’ll have her own cowboy and baby by Christmas, she can’t see it happening. Riding broncs are her focus and beating the behind of Trace. Coming from the large O’Donnell clan, Gemma knows all the tricks and games that people can play. Her brothers have made sure she can take care of herself growing up. Her parents taught her she could do anything a guy could. Winning the purse for bronc-riding should be no problem.
I loved the competition between Gemma and Trace. It starts out fierce but becomes playful as they become friends and then something more. When Trace’s past throws a fly ball, Gemma is there to catch it and help out in a big way. It’s what friends do… but they do finally realize that they are more than friends or competitors…they’re in love. Ms. Brown writes western tales that jump off the pages with humor, entertaining characters and realistic settings. I could see the arenas and rings , smell the broncs and bulls. I love entering her world.
But then she runs into Trace, a man she instantly feels drawn too....
Things were really tense before, but after Trace saves her after she'd been drugged one night at an after rodeo dance. After that night.... things start heating up even more for Gemma O'Donnell and Trace Coleman both in and out of the rodeo arena. This sweet yet sexy romance and it is a delightful addition to Carolyn Brown's Spikes and Spurs series. IMO- it definitely ranks up there as one of my personal favorites of this fabulous series. Both Trace and Gemma aren't about to let their relationship get in the way of the world title though. No sir...no matter hot hot it might get between the sheets, all bets are off when it comes to the competition in the ring.
There was a reviewer that criticized about too many characters being introduced at one time. I guess if you had never read any of her other books before this, it could be a little much to handle. But for those of you who have read those books...all she did was reintroduce the characters from her past books.
Would I recommend this book? In Carolyn Browns own words.....Hell Yeah!
