About the author

Patrick is an entrepreneur, Navy veteran and native Texan traveling the world since 2017. He received his BA in political science from the University of Houston and a certificate in studio music production from Berklee College of Music. You may have even heard some of his music on MTV.
He loves the outdoors, dogs, exercising to stay fit, and doesn't mind cannabis at all, not one bit. He runs a YouTube channel called "TrueGritProductions" with 20K+ subscribers where he gives regular updates on his travels and experiences. Before leaving America in 2017, he lived and traveled all over the western United States, staying in hotels, camping in national parks, and spending the occasional week or two in a log cabin in the mountains of San Diego.
He speaks, reads and writes in 4 different languages including Russian, Spanish, Thai, and English.
More than anything, he loves freedom and the right to think for yourself.

I came across this book from the author’s YouTube Channel: True Grit Productions, which I have been following since mid-2018. Besides the book, I also enjoyed watching a few of his travel videos as well. I can certainly relate to the author’s anger and bitter experiences with people because like him, I also experienced the same unfortunate situations throughout my life and my travels abroad. However, the problem is that he takes it way too far. This author can really tone down his blunt writing style and caustic sense of humor, which I find it extremely off-putting. In particular, I’m deeply offended by his acerbic generalizations about women. There is no need for him to go this far because the generalizations he made about women also very much apply to men and to human beings in general.
However, the worst part isn’t the misogynistic statements; rather it is his adamant insistence that the coronavirus is hoax orchestrated by the world’s financial elites. This denial makes me go through the roof because it is an extremely egregious insult to all brave essential workers and courageous medical/health care professionals who risk their lives to save people’s lives and to keep society running in the midst of an incredibly vicious global pandemic!
Lastly, on a personal note, I also had a not so pleasant experience with the author. I left a nice comment on one of his YouTube videos only to receive a rude reply with unfounded assumptions about me. I didn’t take his hostile attitude personally because he also left belligerent, condescending, and even profane replies to other people who have left nice, caring, and encouraging messages on his YouTube videos. Because of the author’s unfriendly, unpleasant, and flat-out offensive attitudes to people who like and support his work; I give this book two stars even though it is a really funny piece of work laced with practical travel advice and useful insights about life throughout.
