Cute and adorable clothing patterns for children ages 2-12 years of age and their companions abound in this book. Author Brandy Fortune has put together a collection of nineteen patterns each for child and a 15 inch doll that would be relatively simple to knit and loved by a child. The book has patterns for ballet wraps, pinafores, boys' color work sweaters, jackets, shrugs, skirts, and even bracelets.

The patterns list yarns that are usually found in specialty yarn shops, such as Blue Sky alpaca or Lorna's Laces. The patterns do use yarns in common weights, so it will be possible to substitute if a knitter chooses to do so.

There are a few things in particular I really love about this pattern collection; the photographs, the dolls, and the customization suggestions beginning on page 8. The collection itself has enough variety that if you want to knit for children, you will probably be able to find something for almost every child in this book. The dolls that are wearing the matching pieces are all 15 inch cloth bodied dolls. the dolls are adorable, and remind me of Kathy Kruse Waldorf style dolls. The book states that many of the patterns should also fit on 18 inch dolls, like American girl, without much adjusting needed. This brings me to the third thing I like about this book - on page 8 Fortune tells how to use actual body measurements from children or dolls to adjust the patterns to a custom fit. Since children (and their dolls) do not have bust and waist shaping, adjusting patterns for them is much easier then for adult women. With the ability to customize, this book just made itself even more worthwhile. Knitters will need not fear a poor fit in their gifts to small loved ones.

Fortune is herself a busy mother to small children.

This is an excellent book. So many books like this are just for little girls but there are so many patterns that can be used for just about any child. All of them are adorable and the instructions are great. I made a vest for my son's Ancestor Doll using one of the patterns in this book. It was my first article of clothing ever and it turned out totally cute. I had to adjust the pattern for size since the doll I was knitting for was smaller, and it was quite easy just by using sock yarn and smaller needles. I have seen a few comments about the patterns being suitable for 18" but I believe the majority of them would work on Build a Bears as well which is what my kids can't seem to get enough of.

I did find it helpful to check out the pattern notes on Ravelry for the patterns I was interested in making, The comments over there are generally very instructive. The photography of the patterns is quite good--you don't just get one weird artistic shot that leaves you wondering exactly what it looks like. I did order it as a Kindle book and the formatting was quite good. Overall, a really great book.

This is a cute book. I bought it so that I could knit some matching clothing for my granddaughters and their dolls. There are a few good patterns in it, but some of the patterns aren't exactly a duplicate. For instance, there is a brown sweater for a boy that has a picture of a dear patterned into it, yet the doll version is just a brown sweater with no deer.

The patterns are nice and easy to knit though, and once you've made a few you can start playing around with the patterns and cusomizing them for your own unique pieces. A good place to spring off from.

This book starts as a great resource for knitting clothes for many types of dolls. There are instructions for many adjustments. Then, the book is also filled with some great basic pieces for any child and doll pair. There are also a few neat patterns for more advanced knitters.

This book is so cute! I have sewn quite a few outfits for 18 inch dolls over the years for the little girls in my family but I've never knit anything for them. I have a handful of crocheted Aminekos and I am looking forward to making some of the cute projects in this book for them.

There is a great variety of projects in the book so no mater what little kid and their little best friend you want to make something for they will get a kick out of these adorable projects for sure!
