This book is about hope, plan and simple. It's not sugar coated, it doesn't gloss over the terrible debilitating systems this awful unseen disease has on not just the person suffering from metal illness but their loved ones, family and friends.
Devin works as a child's cancer nurse in a local hospital. She's funny, caring , compassionate and loyal. She is so weary of men because for seven years she was in a serious relationship that turned into a nightmare. After seven years her boyfriend turns up on the her ward with a child suffering from cancer and a whole family she had no idea about. So for four years she hasn't dated or tried a relationship again.
Then Jack comes along, handsome, a talented artist, he seems kind and funny but he has secrets and as the story unfolds and you hear his thoughts and read his notes , you begin to see how dark and despairing he feels , how faking it all the time wares him down further into the dark... It's not a usual roamance, it's gritty and pulls no punches but it has moments of pure joy and love. This book will stay with you, Jack will stay with
So well written, enjoyable, thought provoking and yes romance
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book
An insightful and thoughtful story of Jack and Devin who are so real and broken and absolutely beautifully created.
When Jack met Devin it was the best and the worst day. Despite their instant attraction and connection they both had secrets and demons that created illusions of something else.
Driven by pride, fear and insecurity Jack couldn't bring himself to reveal what turmoil he was going through.
Will revealing his secrets change everything between them if she knew the truth about him?
Would she understand?
To Devin having a mental illness does not define a person. But she was a protector by nature, and not everyone viewed the world like she did.
How deeply will she follow him through the darkness without losing herself too?
There is always another option, but is there?
How far will you go to save the one you love?
It’s not often that I find myself losing the ability to write a review, for me as a blogger/reader it’s something that normally comes naturally…But I am at a complete loss for words right now….
Just Breathe touches on an extremely hard topic that many of us including those that suffer from it never quite understand. A condition that plagues the mind, that creates self doubt, self worth, that leaves a sufferer tormented by their own thoughts. It’s hard to breathe, to fight. Relationships are buckled under the weight of it all. Living, such a simple task that we all should enjoy, but sufferers of this find comfort in maybe, just maybe in taking their life away.
It’s called depression, and Just Breathe is about a man who lives with it daily.
It takes us on Jack’s journey where everyday is a fight, where every thought is jumbled.
It takes us on Devin’s journey. A woman who falls for Jack, but knows he is hiding something.
Jack and Devin, so completely opposite, but yet drawn to one another.
But can they survive?
I don’t want to give anything else away….But I will say this…
D Breeze…What you have given us with Just Breathe is nothing short of heart-wrenching, confronting and soul crushing. It’s thought provoking and breathtakingly beautiful.
A condition that has touched me personally that you executed with perfection.
This novel with stay with me always.
Jack will always be in my heart.
I did like them both but several times they angered me with their actions and I found myself to be getting really frustrated at the book. This didn't stop me reading it in one sitting however, because I just needed to know what happened.
Jack suffers from depression and finds it difficult to open up to people. He doesn't want their pity so he keeps his depression from everyone participating in therapy as a way of helping himself.
Devin has trust issues finding it extremely hard to be able to be with people without worrying. Together they make quite a pair.
