The book does explain how some things I've wondered about in hygiene were handled & does give an accurate portrait of how dark & gloomy the houses were day or night. And how cooking heated the houses making them uncomfortable sleeping in or actually living in.
Having sex right away does not constitute the start of a relationship & for a man of that time I was surprised he didn't think little of her! The characters I felt are never fully formed & no actual plot interests were allowed by the author. The man was sought after by a local women in the nearby town. She sounded a bit bitchy but what a cliche that in the end she's all happiness the couple got together. How unreal! The other unreal part of the book is the heroine disappearing then coming home with a baby & the town welcomes her with open arms GET REAL! She would NOT have been married in the church. The author needed to do more research into the time she was writing about. If you are easily entertained & don't want accuracy in what you read you'll like this book.
What I think makes a book a 'good' book is one that the reader is able to get involved in. This book does just that. From the emotions of the characters, to the precise description of the surroundings, I felt connected to the story and the characters from the very beginning. I laughed, I cried, I even had to stop reading at one point and didn't pick it up for a week or so because I wasn't ready for what might happen next (like when you're watching a suspenseful movie and you put your hand over your face because the suspense is too real).
It was a very good read, at the end there was nothing unwritten that left me wondering.
REALLY enjoyed it...I'm very proud of you!!
Would absolutely recommend this (as a matter of fact, I've posted this link on my Facebook).
I felt the long drawn sex dialogue could have been truncated and didn't add to the story. Plenty of action and a bit of a surprise at the end.
