Editorial Reviews

2013 album from the Electronic/Dance artist with a Rock 'n' Roll flair. Delong, raised in the suburbs of Seattle, headed south to Los Angeles with a toolbox of Wii-motes, keyboards, and drums to develop a live rock show that CMJ Magazine claims worthy of ''an 8-bit warrior, seamlessly creating danceable electro beats with his Wii Remote and Sega Genesis controller on par with the Chemical Brothers.'' Having performed his genre-bending songs since 2010, Delong uses MIDI interfaces, a full drum set, drum pads, keyboards, laptops and game controllers, looping his music live to fuse electronic dance beats with striking melodies and lyrics with emotional heart.

He is so unbelievably talented. If you like his music and get the opportunity to see him live, DO IT. I'm usually not into the genre a whole lot but he puts a really cool twist on it. It's great. His album "In the Cards" is even better than this one

Robert Delong's impressive debut ranks with some of the most significant DJ-beat music: Chem Brothers' Dig Your Own Hole, Moby's Everything Is Wrong, even DJ Shadow's Endtroducing... It has the same feel of effortlessly generating fresh sounds while seeming to redefine an entire culture behind the music itself. When in doubt (but then again, Delong doesn't "do" doubt very much), this album goes for hyperdrive -- superfast breakbeats, patches of distortion that float briefly on the mix. Not that Delong simply flies over, both his music and words are thoughtfully detailed. When he sings about games, he provides just the right amount of Atari f/x. And not even New Order was so nerdily in love with the brainy lyric. "No two people move alike" is sharp. "Few Years Make" is a rush of memories-confessions that hooks up house with post-Sublime ska. "Complex" might even reveal Paul Simon as a secret influence. My only reservation is that Delong's self-probing can make him seem slightly unlikeable. The duet on the lovely "Perfect" reminds you how great Chem Brothers and Moby collaborate with guest artists. But to tell the truth, Delong is not alone in this, I detect the same off-putting hint in Miguel, fun., Kurt Vile, Frank Ocean, Bat for Lashes, like they all spend a bit too much time in their own heads perhaps. Welcome to post-human music. But this is a stellar debut.

Robert Delong can only be described as a musical genius! His stage show is amazing! Please don't call it/him a one man band. Its just that he needs no one else. He is obviously a master of all electronic musical things, so he can perform all over the stage. But when he takes to the drum kit, watch out! Things are gonna get rocking. And be careful when he pumps his fist, that means he is about to drop some bass that will knock your socks off.
I know this record was a long time coming and it is brilliantly crafted. There are repeating themes. And many of the lyrics ring true and personal. But most of all, he makes you ****ing DANCE!

It's hard to find an innovative sound and Robert DeLong does it. I was hooked on Global Concepts and the full album delivers the goods with consistently good tunes. I can't wait for him to start touring more and make it to Colorado!

Robert Delong has cemented himself as my favorite recording artist of the past decade. Just Movement is filled with bangers, and buying the vinyl even has a song that isn't on the CD version or download. My first exposure to Robert Delong was seeing him open for another electronic musician, and while both concerts were fun and new for me, when I went home and listened to both of them again Robert was the only one who musically brought it to the table in a recording. Since then, I've seen him live twice and gotten all of my friends hooked. Listen to Just Movement, then find out when he's playing near you because neither are something you want to miss.

I discovered Robert Delong by chance on Spotify, and of course it was the hit song 'Global Concepts'. Like many others, I totally fell in love with the unique sound of the track. I looked up the official video and realized he was a one-man band. After that, I was hooked. Before purchasing the album, I listened to all the songs on Just Movement via Spotify. At first listen, 'Global Concepts' was my favorite. But overall, I just LOVED his sound. He also has a beautiful voice. Then, I really listened to the lyrics of the album; 'A Few Years Make' especially caught my attention. Apparently the whole album's a thesis statement on what humans do with the time they're on Earth, thus the title 'Just Movement'. There were recurring themes and personal anecdotes that made his lyrics poetic. Though it's the opinion of a previous reviewer to call his lyrics 'teenage drivel', I don't think it's a very fair remark. Seems hasty. Anyway, after listening to his album countless times, I finally decided to support him and purchase it. I haven't seen him live, but I will in the coming months. Can't get enough of him!

This is a great new album from Robert. I had never heard of him till I saw him live recently here in town. I'll have to say his live performance is so much better than this album. If he come to your town GO SEE HIM!!!!
