Jennifer Monroe's regular ob-gyn is out of the office and she's about to be seen by the new guy - but when she realizes that it's her high school crush, the black-haired blue-eyed guy king of Lake Grayson High School, back home in Michigan, the guy who humiliated her so many years before, she flees without a pelvic examination.

Romance novels are formulaic, of course. He loves her, and she loves him, but her insecurities drive her crazy until the last chapter, when she suddenly realizes that there's really no problem after all. Despite that, this novel manages to replace the angst with humor and spirit into the formula, resulting in the kind of fun read that made "Coffee, Tea, or Me?" so popular back in the 1960s.

The cost of a book these days is the time you invest in reading it, time you can never get back. I thought this to be time well spent. Recommended!

And in Joan Reeves' JUST ONE LOOK, it's funny as hell, too.

We all have a memory of that special someone in high school, the one who turned us into knots and ultimately broke our hearts. For psychologist Jennifer Monroe, that memory comes in the drop-dead-gorgeous package of gynecologist Dr. Matt Penrose. But her unexpected encounter with the good doctor, 15 years after they broke up, is the stuff nightmares are made of. There's a last minute doctor substitution at the office where Jennifer goes for her yearly exam, and unbeknownst to her, she lands on Dr. Penrose's examination table. Jennifer panics--as any self-respecting woman would--and from there it's a comedic slide into a battle of wills with the outcome anyone's guess.

I loved this book! If you haven't read JUST ONE LOOK, you're missing out on a great story. It's humorous, sexy to the max, and just plain entertaining. I read it on a blah afternoon, and it was an instant day brightener. I'm now going to look up Joan Reeves' backlist. If this is an example of the type of story she tells, I want to get every one of them!

Joan Reeves knows how to tell a sexy, totally tit-for-tat, love story. You'll laugh out loud over Dr. Jen's antics and retribution for the handsome Dr. Matt Penrose.

Don't we all have some high school memories that are never forgotten. But Jen certainly knows how to create new memories with Matt.

The writing is fun, crisp and the dialogue sexy. Here's a story and characters that will linger long after the book is over...in fact, you'll read it again and again. I know I did!

Though it has what might seem a somewhat cliché premise, Just One Look by Joan Reeves was a surprisingly fun and flirty romantic comedy that was hard to put down. The story starts off with prim Jennifer waiting in her gynecologist's office. A short backstory about a jilting in high school and a broken heart leads to the unsurprising entrance of said love, Dr. Matt Penrose. From there a web of deception, romance and hijinks bring these two together.

Cover Art: 2 Stars
I really hate to be so harsh on the cover, but there are several reasons behind this. First, I feel that the art is more reminiscent of erotica than a fluffy romantic comedy with sexual encounters. Also, I just think that it is a very boring cover. The lettering is way too stylized, and the blurb is entirely too prominent. I feel the book would have been better serviced with something portraying the comedy in the book as well as the romantic setting.

Characters: 3.5 Stars
Jennifer and Matt are both character that the reader can easily get behind. Both have their own individual qualities that make them appealing. I think my only problem was that there really wasn't a lot of effort spent on character development. I liked both of the characters, but in the end, I'm not so certain I really knew them, which was a shame since both were really fun to read.

Plot: 4 Stars
I was really surprised to find this book was not as corny as it first appeared. There is a certain pattern in romance books generally expected, but it's the way the author takes the reader from point A to point B that really matters. I loved that this book evolved along the way. At first, it seemed like it would be more along the wham bam thank you ma'am lines.

I really wanted to like this book. I tried but it just fell flat for me. I am the type of person who hates to not finish a book no matter how bad it may be, but I stopped about halfway through. Spoilers coming!!!

SPOILER!!!!

*I get annoyed when people play silly games.I forgave her for the first one, but had to stop reading after the next one. Both played stupid little revenge games that left me not liking anyone. Those games make neither one likeable. In addition, we don't really get to get to know them very well. She seems boring and uninteresting, yet he wants her and we never get to know why (at least in the half that I read). I always like my novels to be believable, yet this one was just silly.

*I think the writer has decent skills, but she isn't very authentic. I didn't feel the connection from Jennifer and Matt. How is she so different from other women? Don't just write it down, make me believe it. Matt falls for her once he sees her body. Really, that's it? Make me feel their spark, because just saying they felt one is not good enough.

*I am still confused as to what the plot actually was for this story. It jumped all over. She's nervous from seeing him again; She gets mad; She wants revenge; She doesn't want revenge; He wants revenge. There is too much going on and no focus.

*She was a nervous wreck when she saw him again after all those years and then within 5 minutes, she is a tempress. She hates her breasts, yet uses them to her advantage to seduce. Her friend gives her a hard time for being too conservative, then she has a hot black mini and now she is confident. There is no transition.
