Alexis Montague Pearson dated Walter for three years when he decided to leave town to end their relationship. In an effort to regain her dignity and make a clean break, she takes charge of her life. Once a week she leaves work for her post-Walter self-improvement tae kwon do class. As the only single, African-American woman, Alexis makes a renewed commitment to her law firm by increasing her billable hours. She even cuts the long hair that Walter loved. On the evening of the bridesmaids' dress fitting for her cousin's wedding, Alexis breaks the arm of a new student, Remedy, in her tae kwon do class. Feeling very guilty, she rushes to the hospital to ensure that he is not seriously hurt and meets his ex-wife, Ayzah. Their meeting is an unlikely start to a relationship, but Remedy is interested and pursues Alexis. She soon discovers that Ayzah is possessive and unstable. Just when Alexis has her life in order, she has to decide if she is willing to make an investment in Remedy. Lillian LewisCopyright © American Library Association. All rights reserved
