From the Back Cover
When a strange event on a walk home from school leads eleven-year-old Sippy Johnson to have her first real talk with God, her whole life changes.
As God continues to send her "signs", she is lead to the attic where she discovers a family secret. And when Jilly, her forty-three-year-old hippie cousin, who drives a converted school bus and listens to rock and roll music, arrives in town, Sippy is instantly drawn to her.
Facing the truth about their family, they begin a friendship that spans over thirty years. Together, they share a love for books, music, God, life, and each other.
As Sippy tells the story, you will laugh with her, cry with her, dance with her, and grow up with her. But most of all, you will love her. You will love her outlook on life, her relationship with God, and her unique bond with Jilly, a hippie cousin from Alabama, who shows her she is more than just Sippy.

I'm now in my 30s, but I can say that Just Sippy by Kimberly J. Coleman is another one of those life changing books. It's a sweet coming of age story that steals your heart and won't let it go. I was quickly drawn into the world of young Sippy and the life changing secret she uncovers at the tender age of eleven. Through a string of strange events that include everything from hearing God's voice for the first time to finding a strange journal in the attic at Thanksgiving, Sippy begins a journey that teaches her all about growing up and discovering the truth about who she really is.
I loved Just Sippy and all the wonderful characters like Sippy's hippie Aunt Jilly and Sippy's best friend, Max. I won't give out any spoilers, but I will admit that I cried a bit towards the end of the book. After all, growing up is difficult and not without its share of pain. My favorite moment from the book was an especially touching conversation between Sippy and her dad after she's returned from her vacation with her Aunt Jilly that had me in tears.
But what I really liked about the book was that even once Sippy had come to terms with this family secret that she uncovered and what it meant about her past, the story continued. We get to see Sippy grow up and make her adult choices and live with them. But I especially loved seeing her relationship with her fun & quirky Aunt Jilly continue and evolve and what that meant for her later in life.
Just Sippy is a book that young girls will love, but you don't have to be a young girl to enjoy it! This book is for anybody who has ever dealt with the joy and pain of growing up. If you get the chance to read Just Sippy, you won't regret it!
