"Our society needs more entertaining novels that bring to life the importance of a responsible and independent press, an accountable government, and the rule of law. JUST THE TRUTH does just that. CARRIE LUKAS, President, Independent Women's Forum

An inherently engaging and impressively presented novel. ... JUST THE TRUTH is especially and unreservedly recommended. ... Deserving of the widest readership possible." MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW

[W]e need more real-life Laura Taningers to find the truth wherever it hides." THE EPOCH TIMES

A newswoman battles a powerful bureaucracy to keep journalism, a free press—and truth—alive.

Set in Washington, DC, in the near future, JUST THE TRUTH portrays the threats to a free press in the era of growing, unchecked government and the indomitable spirit of one journalist who risks her career, her reputation—and ultimately her life— to uncover a plot that just might subvert free elections in America. JUST THE TRUTH is a political thriller and murder mystery that explores a pivotal issue facing America today: What is happening to truth in journalism? Are we in danger of losing it? Copyrighted in 2019 and published in June 2020, with characters entirely fictional, this prescient novel foretold events surrounding a real presidential election just months away.

“Find the truth, wherever it hides” was the slogan of firebrand newspaper mogul Julius Taninger (JT) in the mid-20th century. Then, politicians feared his scathing editorials. Now, 70 years later, with JT deceased and his son Clark and grandchildren Irene, Billie, and Laura Taninger running the company, have the tables turned? In modern-day America, does the press—and the broader business community—still have the freedom to criticize public officials, or do those officials have the power to silence their opponents? Laura Taninger is about to find out.

As the president of Taninger News and host of its primetime TV show after the death of her grandfather, Laura becomes the sole journalist to hold President Ken Martin’s administration accountable. The signature program of his administration, SafeVote, puts control of national elections in the hands of the federal government, rather than letting the states manage the voting in their own jurisdictions. SafeVote is scheduled to launch with the upcoming presidential election in which Martin hopes to win a second term. Laura, however, suspects foul play. James Spenser, who is Laura’s source within the administration, has vital information for her but is gunned down before he cam reveal it.

Facing the crushing retaliation of her political enemies against her family’s businesses, a smear campaign to destroy her reputation, and the intense pressure of her family to give up her investigation, Laura persists in her inquiry into Spenser’s murder and the secrecy surrounding SafeVote. As she gets closer to unraveling the mystery, she realizes that the facts point to shocking revelations about the man whose memory haunts her, the man who was her greatest business competitor and her most passionate lover—until he betrayed her and the ideals they shared. With Election Day looming and the country at a crossroads, Laura is determined to pursue the truth wherever it leads.

Published in June 2020, this story foretold headlines months later, after a real presidential election. With controversies persisting about the integrity of today’s journalism and elections, JUST THE TRUTH could not be more timely.

Her third novel is the science fiction adventure and romance for teens and adults, FUGITIVE FROM ASTERON. This story of a passionate quest for freedom and personal discovery was an Eric Hoffer Book Award winner. Gen's fourth and current novel in JUST THE TRUTH, a political thriller and murder mystery that examines the struggles we face to preserve truth in journalism. In addition to fiction, Gen also writes social and political commentaries, which have appeared in Forbes, The Orange County Register, The Daily Caller, Real Clear Markets, and other publications. Prior to fiction writing, Gen worked as a pharmaceutical chemist, business consultant, and corporate writer. She holds an undergraduate degree in chemistry from Polytechnic Institute of New York and a graduate degree in philosophy from Columbia University. Her variety of life experiences---in science and business, as well as in philosophy and writing---brings vibrant characters, urgent issues, thematic depth, and an outside-the-box approach to Gen's novels. Wow!
So timely. - Presidential elections, free speech, demonstrations/vandalism/mobs, etc.

So full of reasonable optimism. - Easy to get depressed these days due to so much bad news. This book is a good antidote.

Great ideas and analysis of important issues of our time. - Descriptions of bogus and destructive but popular ideas with convincing and short refutations.

Characters that ring true - good and bad - some bigger than life to look up to or down on, but also some about exactly as mediocre (morally) as one often sees in real life.

This is the most recent book by Gen LaGreca. Her other books:
Nobel Vision
A Dream of Daring
Fugitive from Asteron
I have really enjoyed these and have reviewed on GoodReads.com.

Here are a few quotations to show you how timely and penetrating the book is:
"The Advocates for Peace and Democracy held a demonstration yesterday in Atlanta that got a little out of hand.” “I’ll say. Ten people hospitalized, dozens of stores looted, police cars overturned, and a fire set in a shopping mall. Very few of the rioters and thugs were arrested, and they promise another round of street fighting tonight.”

"What would Laura think of me if I equated the police with the rioters? But reluctant to challenge his new boss, Sean conceded."

This is an exciting story about a determined journalist and those that will do anything to sabotage her. I never guessed the ending! It was a total surprise. Prepare to lose sleep as you keep turning pages. The main character is a very admirable newswoman on the trail of a story that could upend the most powerful people in the country. She’s a model for what journalism should be. If all of our news reporters were like her, we’d have a political class that would be forced to walk the straight and narrow! It’s a great novel to give to high school and college students---easy to read, holds your interest, and informs them, our future generation, about what a free press is and why we must never let it slip away.

I am not a verified purchaser as I was given the book. Most of the reviews so far have been prior to the recent election and prior to the. exposing of it by Amazon books like The Deep Rig.(see my review there) "I'll alter the program to randomly give votes to your guy in key districts in swing states that will ensure he has enough to win." Page 85. The author hits on the problem of the modern journalists with truth. Revel's book, The Flight From Truth, reveals that the problem is world wide. One suspects that it is related to some long dead "philosopher" who preached a new religion concerning his view that objective truth did not exist. Students of Western Civilization will back track to the question of Pilate, "What is Truth?" This question becomes part of the story with a touch of Aquinas in it by way of his and the author's presentation of the best arguments on either side as preface to his answer. There are no straw man arguments. That truth is relative makes as strong a case as it could.
In novels as in poetry we readers willingly suspend belief in order to experience the author's creation. What is somewhat un nerving is that this author's novel describes with some precision the method used by Deep State to elect President*Biden. This is copyrighted 2019 so her creation shows presentient mind at work which is a bit un nerving. Via the turns and twists of the tale the question about truth appears and reappears in different guises with the "good guys" defending the necessary role of journalists to be truthful...to report what is or what was and to not use a position of trust to mislead those who have given their trust.
It has been said that if in your college education you did not learn to discern who was lying to you that you needed to get a refund from that college. On the upside of that, most of us learn that lying takes place in those colleges and that unlearning the lies we were indoctrinated with in K-12 is difficult. But, as we tweeze out the bad we were afflicted with we develop that ability with today's journalists. No intelligent person trusts the products of most American Journalists. We are skeptical most of all, I think, of the television mediocrities. The flight from truth has afflicted the print media the most and damaged their bottom lines almost beyond repair.
As government grows, the parasites grow with it, and, could it be that a Gresham's Law takes place with those elected or appointed to official positions? It used to be that folks just wanted to do a good job but it seems that lately folks want to be someone. In the political world, then, you have the do ers and then you have the be ers. With too many of the latter the temptation to "look good" takes precedence over any commitment to truth they may have had. Maybe George Washington did not cut down that Cherry Tree but he fessed up to it in a manner that we don't often see in any of our currently elected officials and the subservient presstitutes who are no longer journalists.

Just like LaGreca's previous book Noble Vision, Just the Truth borrows heavily from the books Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. LaGreca goes beyond borrowing philosophical themes and ideas from Rand's philosophy, Objectivism. LaGreca also uses specific scenes, characters and plot points from Rand's best known books.

LaGreca is an Objectivist who has associated with prominent Objectivists such as former Ayn Rand Institute board members.

This would all be totally fine except that, bizarrely, LaGreca gives no credit at all to Rand or Objectivism.

As a huge fan of Rand myself, I find inferior copies of Rand to be still worth reading. I'm glad someone is trying to write something similar to Rand. But I'm disturbed by the lack of credit given. People should know that they are reading knockoffs and be informed that the originals exist too, and they might like to read them. Doesn't LaGreca want to inspire people to read her own inspiration, Ayn Rand? Or does LaGreca want to tell a lie, contrary to the book's title and theme, that she's more of an original thinker than she is? Or is LaGreca hiding from the controversy associated with Ayn Rand, just like the villains in this book hide from truths that offend and alienated some people?
