Thanks to Walker, I was primed and ready to go when I opened Justice on my Kindle. Were it not for a busy weekend and “real-life” demands getting in the way, I would have read this book in one sitting. That’s how caught up I was in the action as Justice and the other men of the T-Zone team were sent in to extricate an American Ambassador and his daughter from the American Embassy in Sana’a, Yemen.
Unlike Walker, Justice is ex-military and his time in the Marines, as well as his computer expertise, make him the ideal choice to lead the mission. Just in case it wasn’t stressful enough to be leading his first mission, Warren does an outstanding job of creating unexpected, yet believable obstacles and challenges Justice must overcome in order to achieve the desired mission outcome – including the ambassador’s daughter, Matilda. [And yes, I completely snorted at Justice’s thought when Blaize revealed Matilda’s name.] Because this is an extraction mission, all of the Bad Boys of X-Ops are involved, so we not only get to see Justice in action, we get to see the team function as a whole and it is impressive. Despite the fact that the guys nearly get dead going in, and despite the fact that they are under near constant fire as the rebels attempt to gain access to the bunkered zones of the embassy, the real war Justice wages is with Tilly – trying to convince her that he’s not good enough for her, trying to convince her that he’s not interested in anything more than a good time, and trying to keep out of her pants, all while she’s busy trying to get into his. Thank goodness Tilly proved to be the better fighter in that battle so that the reader (and Tilly) are treated to some spectacular sexual gymnastics. But the real challenge is figuring out what will be when (not if) they make it out of Yemen alive.
I really, really enjoyed Justice. The romance, seduction, and happy ending (which wasn’t quite what I envisioned), made watching the Justice-Lawless courtship under fire even better than I expected. The chemistry between Justice and Tilly was intense, and I think very little of that was due to the heightened nature of the situation they were in. The added bonus of seeing the guys work together on the mission was great because I not only got to catch up with Walker, but I also got to know Storm and Bane a tiny bit better. Of course, this left me anxious to get my hands on Storm, but really left me wanting to know more about Bane. Justice was a great addition to the Bad Boys of X-Ops series, and I’m looking forward to sinking my teeth into Storm as soon as possible.
