About Kellyn Thompson
Kellyn Thompson is the author of THE UNEXPECTED INLANDER, a novel that addresses prejudice in a world where human genetic modifications are commonplace, where class is strictly governed, and where people have no choice in what they do or where they live. Blog postIt took a while and some troubleshooting, but I am pleased to announce that The Unexpected Inlander is available for Nook and in paperback at Barnes & Noble, epub via Google Play Books, and through distributors such as IngramSpark, Kobo, and Draft2Digital. Of course, it is still available at Amazon, as well.
Not that I don’t love or support Amazon and Barnes & Noble (they serve a great purpose for those who do not have access to local bookstores or libraries), but if you are i2 years ago Read more -

The floor, she was told, looked like something called “marble,” just as the wallpaper did. It wasn’t like the exposed concrete floors in most of the buildings. The art museum, being one of the only Coastal-exclusive venues i2 years ago Read more -

Part I: The Arrival
As Angelica flipped through the Primer on Inland Culture on the plane, she didn’t understand why her company had wanted to send her to Des Moines on Friday when her meeting was not until Monday. It wasn’t like she had never traveled before. She had vacationed in Nova Scotia, New Haven, Atlantic City, Charleston, Miami, Biloxi, Galveston, and San Diego. 2 years ago Read more -
Blog postIt is with great pleasure that I get to announce that The Unexpected Inlander is now available in paperback and Kindle at Amazon!

“I’ll only go out with him if he’s hot,” Melinda’s best friend, Shana, declared.
Zaire and Melinda had married earlier that day, and, in the giddy spirit of newlywed optimism, Melinda had suggested that her best friend should be set up with her new husband’s best friend.
“I think he’s a decent-looking guy,” Zaire said, going along with the idea, mostly to please his new wife but also, to a much lesser extent, because he, too, was caught up in the2 years ago Read more -

Afterwards, she cuddled up to him, and he put his arm around her. It wasn’t like them to do this–usually one of them got dressed and left almost immediately, if not after some brief chit chat. They had done this enough times that they had developed a pattern, almost like a routine. They weren’t exclusive by any means, but they were “regulars” on the app, a group that was distinct and recognizable almost entirely by their age alone. Blog postFranchesca had just arrived at work and was sitting at her desk when the message on her phone alerted her that the embryo was ready.
The message read: “Congratulations! Your conception has been confirmed! An appointment for genotyping and in utero modification surgery has been scheduled with your physician today at 3:00 PM. If you need to reschedule, reply to this message. An appointment must be made within the next 36 hours or gestation will need to be terminated.”

The mission seemed straightforward:
Get in.
Get the Cipher.
Get out.
But the Cipher is just the beginning.
Having achieved the highest status in the agency, Chris is settling into his new position as a boss when one of his agents discovers an item for sale on the black market. She believes it is called the “Cipher” and that it is highly sought after by the opposition.
When Chris proposes opening a new mission to retrieve this “Cipher” before it reaches the enemy, the agency suggests a plan that will put his new position of authority—and his marriage—to the test.
With only days to prepare, he is sent back into the field to work undercover in one of the ominous Purebred Communities. Once inside, he quickly learns that the official reports were misleading and that the Community is far more dangerous than he had been led to believe.
Fortunately, his extensive training and experience has already prepared him for the unexpected. He is prepared for the unknown and prepared to find the Cipher.
But nothing can prepare him for the truth.
In this gripping sequel to The Unexpected Inlander, Chris sees firsthand the inner workings of a contained society, confronts the leader of an intricate criminal network, and uncovers unfathomable information about the past. True to the Unexpected Inlander series, The Modified Blueprint follows themes of identity, belonging, and coming to terms with external factors that are beyond one's control.

They were never supposed to happen to each other.
A love such as theirs was never supposed to endure, not in the highly controlled society of The Sectors.
Yet, a chance encounter at dinner led to breakfast at a diner down the road. They each thought they had found their perfect soulmate, but neither could have imagined the awful truth they would face.
Agent Christopher Rockford has been the best assassin in the agency for eight years, and he loves his job. He loves his solitary lifestyle. He loves keeping the world safe by getting rid of anarchists who threaten their orderly society. He loves his comfortable life as a member of the wealthy Coastal upper class.
But in pursuit of a target, he meets Jenna, a mysterious civilian who belongs to society’s lowest and most shunned group. Meeting her is a life-changing experience. She makes him feel for the first time, and he is instantly captivated.
She boldly stands in the face of everything he has ever known and was taught to believe. He begins to see the world through her eyes, causing him to question his job, his lifestyle, and The Order he so obediently serves. It’s not long before he can't imagine his life without her.
There’s just one problem: He knows she would leave him if she ever found out about his job. He knows this because he asked her how she felt about assassins in their government, and she was utterly disgusted with the idea, even though she believes their existence is just a myth.
As their relationship grows and intensifies, he knows he cannot keep the truth from her for long.
But Jenna has her own secrets to keep.
Set in an orderly world of near-perfect surveillance, genetically modified humans, and extreme socioeconomic divide, The Unexpected Inlander will take you through Chris’s journey of self-discovery and learning that change begins within.
***Trigger/Content Warnings***
1) Classism, Prejudice, Discrimination
Explanation: one of the central themes of the Unexpected Inlander series is that of identity, belonging, and coming to terms with those aspects of identity which are beyond one’s control or choosing. To address this, incidents of prejudice and discrimination occur throughout the books, most notably between majorities (Modifieds) and minorities (Purebreds) and between the rich/privileged class (Coastals) and the poor/underprivileged class (Inlanders).
***On a related note: All characters are assumed to be Modified unless otherwise stated.***
2) Murder, bodies/corpses, death/dying, guns, weapons, poisoning
Explanation: one of the main characters is on a mission to assassinate a family, so descriptions of deaths, murder, and use of weapons, guns, and poisonings are described.
