About K. J. Pierce
Thanks to her Army Brat upbringing, author K.J. Pierce has an insatiable curiosity for both the world at large and the people who inhabit it. She loves to travel but rarely does, so she combats her "itchy-feet" syndrome by rearranging the furniture.
She loves heroines who are misfits and outcasts, and who are stronger than they think. Like many of her favorites, she's prone to the occasional bout of melodrama and suffers from the not-so-occasional foot-in-mouth disease.
She currently lives on Florida's Space Coast with her cat Dorian Gray, who lives up to his name by striving to be the state's most prolific lizard serial killer. Yours Truly is her first novel.

Blog postI don’t know about you, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve prayed not to eat dirt in front of someone else – a romantic rival…a romantic interest…my brother (cause, you know, he’d never let me hear the end of it. lol)
Wiping out in front of a bunch of people I don’t know, though? That’s totally fine (and something I’ve done way too often… Ha!)

So… week one of new job is down, and I’m having a ball – but that’s not what the disco ball is for. That’s for today’s #MusicMonday pick – “Le Freak” by CHIC. Nothing better than a 70’s throwback (unless it’s an 80’s throwback, but I digress…)
I seem to recall my brother had this on 45, and I wasn’t supposed to touch it. I did, however, decide to take it to school for show & tell, and I accidentally sat on it. And broke it. #W5 days ago Read more -

I don’t know what it is about “Route 66” – especially the Depeche Mode version – that makes it perfect for a new start song. It evokes a sense of freedom and exploration and adventure. At least it does for me.
And so, it’s off to start a new job today – I hadn’t intended on working for anyone else ever again, at least as an employee, especially given the absolute batshit crazy of the last job. The opportunity presented itself, though, and so it1 week ago Read more -
Blog postSo… this is my very own Mr. Dorian Gray – who’s 16+ and who had a tooth pulled yesterday. I was super worried about the anesthesia given his age, but he did just fine and now he’s on soft food and painkillers for a week or so to give his gum time to heal.
He’s currently hiding under the bed since his morning meds have taken effect.
No reason for post this except to share the joy. I was an absolute wreck yesterday.

Blog postBoy, have I felt this way on occasion. Maybe not so much with a celebrity, but I suppose it doesn’t take someone famous for someone else to feel not good enough. ‘Tis the nature of humans, I’m sure.
But this book is comedic, as is the nature of Chick Lit, so don’t feel too bad. Izzie gets over it, as do we all.

A wonderful friend of mine introduced me to this song last week – it’s fun and funky and it reminds me a little of Tom Petty, though I couldn’t tell you why. Maybe it’s the phrasing of certain words, or the beat, or the timber of his voice…
Whatever the case, it’s a song I feel I should share. So, Happy #MusicMonday and check out Aaron Lee Tasjan.

Blog post~~~~~ Welcome author Candace Colt for this week’s Thirteen for Thursday ~~~~~ What is one fun fact about yourself very few people know?
I love the reaction when I tell people I was a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. Most people assume I must have been a nuclear scientist (I wish!). I transitioned from a public-school teacher to this high-tech medical imaging field with really no idea what it was, either. It was a fantastic privilege to be a part of it.

Never tick off a paparazzo with the ethics of a demented dingo.
Izzie Greene never wanted the limelight. As a caterer for Poe, the top-rated U.S. TV show, she has background player down pat. She loves spoiling the cast and crew with her goodies and fantasizing about her celebrity crush, Poe's lead actor, Scotsman Cardwell Bennett. But mostly she loves her quiet, anonymous life.
Unfortunately, anonymous is no longer on the menu.
Izzie's personal life takes a jab when her ex-boyfriend shows up on set. Her career suffers a blow when she runs afoul of an unethical paparazzo. The personal and professional collide in a knock-out punch when her rumored romance with Cardwell hits the tabloids.
The rumors may or may not be true. Izzie certainly won't tell. Instead, she white-knuckles the flaming rollercoaster of fake news, her notoriety fueled by equal measures of constant scrutiny, speculation, and half-truths.
Held captive by the media, accident-prone Izzie struggles to keep her privacy, secrets, and sanity--not to mention her sense of humor--intact. With help from her best friend Delly, her temperamental cat Edgar, and backup from an unexpected source, she might just have the recipe for success.
If she can withstand the heat.

Article – approximately 4,059 words. The concept of family is a huge part of life in the United States South. Ancestors play as integral a role as current patriarchal / matriarchal figures who shape and groom their charges in a manner that is consistent with honoring and upholding the family’s public and community-oriented image. In Poppy Z. Brite’s Lost Souls, the idea of the southern family is transgressed on all fronts with predictably disastrous results. From the disregard of the matriarch to ineffectual patriarchs who deny their birthright to descendants left to their own devices, author K.J. Pierce briefly explores dysfunctional family life in Lost Souls.

Every author has their own tricks of the trade when it comes to writing and coming up with basic storylines. Some peruse newspapers or magazines, others use writing prompts; sometimes all it takes is a bit of creative thinking. But what happens if the usual tricks don’t work? You shake things up by engaging your brain in a visual exercise that forces it to change how it looks at things and goads it into stretching its creative muscles. Included in this e-book are instructions on how to perform this exercise, an example by the author, 20 images to get you started, and information on where to find images on and offline.

Article – approximately 4,250 words. Poppy Z. Brite’s Exquisite Corpse is not a book for the faint of heart. Full of dark, vivid imagery, it paints a portrait of the shadowy underworld very few of us will, thankfully, ever see. The main setting is New Orleans, where old-world charm coexists with the neon lights of modern day, and which lends itself to the excesses typically found in Bakhtin’s idea of carnival. From the overall role-reversal of carnival to the parts played by masks, food and drink, and the imagery of the grotesque image and grotesque speech, author K.J. Pierce explores Exquisite Corpse though the skewed lens of carnival, briefly exploring examples of each in the novel.

Love is deaf, dumb, and blind.
And, as her first collection of essays shows, love occasionally strikes author K.J. Pierce utterly stupid.
But love is a huge part of being human, and what else is there to do between the highs of first love and the lows of broken hearts, except trip down the primrose path and swear to never make the same mistakes again? She's loved (more unrequitedly than not). She's hated (when there's nothing else left). She's made rash decisions (because, honestly, who hasn't done some level of crazy on account of love?)
In short: K.J. has been deaf, dumb, blind, stupid, and guilty of the occasional ill-thought-out plan - sometimes all at the same time.
From contemplating beauty to confronting her own fears to befriending rockstars, K.J. reflects on the nature of love. Sometimes funny, sometimes raw, but always honest, she savors friends and lovers who stayed awhile, learns from those who merely passed through, and often finds the answers she seeks are met only with more questions.
