K9 Advantix II works for all breeds
Find the right treatment for your dog
K9 Advantix II is for use on all breeds of dogs ages 7 weeks and older, weighing more than 4 pounds. Use your dog's weight to determine which size is right for them. If your dog is on the cusp, choose the size that accommodates your dog’s current weight. If you have a growing puppy that may exceed the product's weight guidelines within a couple of months, consider purchasing a smaller pack count.
How to apply
Apply entire contents of tube along top of dog’s back, between shoulders down to the base of the tail in even spots. At each spot, part hair until skin is visible. Number of spots for size and weight of dog:
See package insert for additional details.
Waterproof after 24 hours
When can I bathe my dog after application?
Your dog is free to be bathed or swim after K9 Advantix II has been on for 24 hours. We recommend bathing your dog before applying K9 Advantix II. Your dog needs to be dry at the time of application. If you bathe your dog between treatments, use a general grooming shampoo for pets.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to work on fleas?
K9 Advantix II kills fleas within 12 hours. New fleas that jump on the dog from the surroundings, such as grass, carpet and pet bedding, are killed within 2 hours with protection against further infestation for at least 4 weeks.
Why do I still see fleas after using K9 Advantix II?
Although K9 Advantix II kills fleas on your dog, there may still be fleas in your dog’s environment that have since jumped on after treatment. Luckily, with K9 Advantix II, new fleas are killed within 2 hours with protection against further infestation for at least 4 weeks. As fleas die they are no longer able to stay hidden against your dog’s skin, and therefore you may also be seeing dying fleas coming to the surface of your dog’s fur coat.
Does it expire?
K9 Advantix II does not expire. Be sure to store it in the original packaging at room temperature.
What are the key ingredients?
Active ingredients are Imidacloprid, Permethrin, and Pyriproxyfen. These ingredients kill and repel fleas, mosquitoes, and ticks, including Deer ticks, American Dog ticks, Brown dog ticks, and Lone Star ticks.
Do not use K9 Advantix II on cats.

The 2-pack of Bayer K9 Advantix II flea and tick prevention for large dogs is a broad-spectrum, veterinarian-recommended dog flea and tick prevention that also kills and repels mosquitoes, a benefit not found in many other flea and tick products. Some products require a flea or tick to bite your dog in order to work, but K9 Advantix II flea and tick prevention for dogs is a topical formula that works through contact, so your dog doesn’t have to endure a painful bite for the flea, tick or mosquito to die. Just one application of Bayer K9 Advantix II flea and tick prevention for large dogs starts working to kill fleas within 12 hours, is waterproof after 24 hours, and continues to work to kill fleas, ticks and mosquitoes for up to 30 days, even after a bath or swimming. We recommend the use of a grooming shampoo designed specifically for pets. Do not use K9 Advantix II on cats. Use only on dogs.

-Easy to use application. You do not need any scissors to open the applicator, it has a cap that you simply take off, turn it upside down and replace it. once you take it back off again the applicator is opened and ready for use.
-Pleasant smell, what little smell there is to it. I can barely smell it when I applied it to my dog, and I was really trying hard to smell it.
- Easy to apply to your pet. You start at the base of the neck on your pet . Using one hand you part the hairs on your pet to expose the skin underneath and apply a little drop at the skin level. I usually take a gloved finger and rub that little drop into his skin a bit before moving on. however it is not required that you do so. Make sure you don't apply too much that it begins to pool up or run off of the hairs on your pet. Just a drop is all that it needs. Moving down along the spine of your pet continue to repeat the steps I just listed to total 6 or so different application sites down their back with the last one being at the base of your pets tail. IMPORTANT make sure to keep your pet from licking application sites for a time until the product has dried on the skin. It is harmful if ingested.
-Upon completion of the application process you should start to see results within 24 hours. I noticed two different ticks on my dog and decided to leave them to see how long this product took to work. They were alive and attached upon application, I checked again 6 hours after, 12 hours after and they were still alive. I checked the next morning (18 hours after completing the application) and both of the ticks had died, and dried up fully. they literally fell off of my dog when I went to remove them. It left no part of the tick inside of my dogs skin. The came off in tact completely!
-You have to ensure that your pet doesn't ingest the product or it can be harmful.
That's honestly the only bad thing I can see with this product. For the price compared to the other products on the market in competition with this one, I believe that this is the most affordable working product. I have tried frontline and several different flea and tick prevention products out there and I will continue to keep purchasing this one because it works. clear and simple!
IF YOU HAVE AN INFESTATION ALREADY -PLEASE READ!!
---If you have a pet that has a pretty good amount of flea and ticks already on him, I have a suggestion. I have a family member that was in the same boat with his golden lab, and we used the Capstar chewable tablet to kill off the eggs, larvae and adult flea and ticks on him and then followed up with this k-9 advatix flea and tick prevention. You can safely administer one capstar chewable tablet to your pet ( get the right weight based tablet for your needs). You can give your pet 1 tablet each 24 hours, until you notice a difference in the amount of activity in your pets coat. Once you feel like you have "put a dent" in the activity amount, follow up with the K-9 Advantix to continue your pets protection against flea and ticks for the next 30 days. the ingredients in both the capstar tablets and the K-9 Advantix are compatible and will not harm your pet so long as you are only administering 1 tablet based on the weight of your pet every 24 hours and then applying the Advantix. you do not have to wait to apply the Advantix after you administer the tablets. they can be administered simultaneously safely and without any harm to your pet!

I used the product without my dog showing any negative signs. I did so without worry because the bulk of the product is permethrin, the same chemical used to treat children who catch lice at school. I’ve used this on my dog several years but it’s necessary to buy a “de-licing” kit you find in drug stores. I typically spray it on a bandana and Dory has to wear it, which she doesn’t like, and I have to wash the bandana frequently and reapply. This is cheaper and more convenient. This product adds 2 other ingredients I’m unfamiliar with but at low concentrations. I’ll have to check into what their purpose is.
I saw no adverse effects. Others have shown photos of irritated skin. Of course, like humans, dogs can have allergies. That’s always a possibility.
But I wonder if the irritation shown didn’t on some occasions arise from a severe infestation of mites or even fleas. I suspect that’s as likely as an allergy. Pet owners purchase this fairly expensive product for a reason. Our problem isn’t fleas or mites but ticks. I hate them but we love the woods and tall grass so they are part of Spring. I’m hoping this product works because it’s easier than trying to keep a bandana on my dog.
It’s easy to apply, and Dory seemed not to notice. She’s had it on for 2 days with no adverse effects. Thumbs up from me!
