I would have been willing to give a five-star rating to these shoes, but they appear to be having some sort of quality control issue. I bought these shoes in mid-July to wear on vacation. They were great. But after wearing these for about a week I noticed that part of the rubberized trim on the right shoe (near the toe) had come loose and was no longer stuck to the shoe. I contacted Amazon and they shipped me a replacement pair (five-stars for Amazon customer service). I put them on this past weekend to go out and after wearing the shoes for only about two hours and doing nothing more strenuous than walking down a steep driveway the trim on the replacement shoes was doing the exact same thing in the same place as the first pair.
I don't think I want to mess with getting another replacement pair, unless Keen is reading and wants to send me a replacement they can guarantee can go more than a week without the trim coming off.
As far as fit goes, they run a bit small. I usually wear 11 1/2 (that's the size of my other Keens), but I took the suggestion of some other reviewers and went with a half size larger and I'm glad I did. 11 1/2 would have been too small.
I'll post pictures of the quality issue I've described. If I received two pair with the same defect, I'm sure there are others.
After two months I filled out a KEEN return form (1 year policy) and they sent me a voucher code for $110 for a new pair of shoes on their keenfootwear website. I thought that was pretty fair of them.
No, they are not good for hiking.
No, they are not good for heavy outdoors camping type use.
No, I don't imagine the non-waterproof ones react all that well to being constantly wet.
What they are is an amazing "city walker" tennies shoe, and also worked great for city biking. It's a shame this shoe wasn't promoted right. So many people trying to hike in these (buy a hiking shoe!), and now they've discontinued them likely due to bad reviews. It's a year later for me now of not going one week without wearing them, and there is no holes, no worn bottom, no rips or tears or wearing around ball of foot. I can't say that about a single other shoe I have used for this use (city walking/etc). They aren't super supportive, but that's one of the things I have liked about them, because they have actually consistently stayed that way, just the right amount of support for misc city outdoor stuff. Such a shame they are gone, hoping they replace them with something similar.
