I've become a fan of Keen shoes and these are everything I wanted in daily footwear here in western Colorado.
This was my second pair of Targhee II's, and this pair fell apart quicker than the first pair.
They feel and fit wonderfully, right out of the box.

Rugged Style with a Waterproof Nubuck Upper

The Targhee II offers a sleek-and-sporty style and a lace-up front for a custom fit. This low-profile shoe stands up to any trail conditions and looks good doing it, thanks to a durable, waterproof nubuck upper with stitching accents and pops of bright color on the laces and around the heel.

Breathable Moisture Protection with Keen.Dry

To keep you treading comfortably on all kinds of terrain, the Targhee II features a Keen.Dry insert. This waterproof membrane offers an additional barrier against moisture yet is breathable enough for all-day comfort.

S3 Heel Support

S3 stands for Shock, Suspension, and Stability and refers to Keen's unique heel-support structure. S3 is engineered to support the foot on impact, which dissipates shock, helping to prevent injury to the ankle.

Keen Metatomical Footbed and EVA Midsole for Support

For comfort and support that won't quit, the Targhee II features a removable, dual-density EVA footbed that provides arch support by hugging the natural contours of your foot. The compression-molded EVA midsole extends the benefits of the footbed and adds an extra spring to your step.

ESS Shank Reduces Foot Fatigue

To keep you going longer, the Targhee II has a torsional-stability ESS shank in the midsole. This shank helps to stabilize your foot as you move, minimizing fatigue, so you can enjoy every moment as you push on to the next crest.

Multi-Directional Lugs for Greater Traction

To give you a steady grip on all kinds of terrain, the Targhee has 4-millimeter, multi-directional lugs on its non-marking rubber outsole. These lugs are spaced wide apart to "bite" into the terrain, giving you more dependable traction on slippery and uneven surfaces.

Patented Toe Protection

Because rocky objects and debris can trip you up on the trail, the Targhee II includes Keen.Protect, patented toe protection that wraps up and over the outsole for thorough coverage of the entire toe bed.

Keen: A Story of Hybrid Innovation

Keen began in 2003 with an inspired sandal design that combined comfort and toe protection. This radical design departure for sandals spawned the overriding Keen philosophy of hybrid innovation--striving to create new possibilities and to discover and implement original ideas.

Keen products put an emphasis on the joys of play. At the same time, Keen believes in the value of working hard to give back to the community. To that end, the company has partnered with non-profit organizations around the world to help get youth into the outdoors, protect land for its environmental and recreational value, and to give bikes to kids in need.

Outstanding stable shoe, roomy forefoot that is supportive on sharp rocks, as well as a heel that doesn't slip. Getting both of those in one shoe has been a long standing problem for me. It is also quick to get in and out of.
I feel I made an excellent purchase!

I liked Keens for a long time because they are wider than the average hiking shoe and have a nice toe cover which is good for field work. But after 6-12 months the treads wear out each time (I've had two pair). Also for hiking on steeper trails the wider shoe provides no lateral stability so they aren't as safe as narrower, more supportive low-cut hiking shoes. I started wearing Merrels and may soon switch to Solomons. I'm 6' 1" and 270 lbs. So I'm hard on shoes. And I walk in cities alot with them and the pavement wears down most hiking shoes quickly. I'm looking for a hard bottom hiking shoe.

I wore these all winter and my tootsies were as snug as a bug in a rug. I've owned many different brands of hiking boots and give them more hell than a bad pro wrestler on Saturday night. Love 'em. Will buy again.

I walk everyday for several hours in a wooded state park. Since I have various problems with my feet, I've always had trouble finding shoes that aren't painful after a few hours of walking. I've only had these for a few weeks but they have really pleased my feet. Really comfy with plenty of support. A real improvement. I like them so much I've ordered another pair to keep clean and wear other places besides the woods. I normally wear a 9M. I wouldn't order up. I got a 9M and they fit fine. The waterproofing works. I've been in a few inches of snow, mud, soggy leaves, and a pretty good rain. Feet stayed dry and I kept my traction. I can't speak to how fast they wear out yet. I'll try to remember to update this in a few months. If I don't get lost in the woods.

    What went well:
    1. The shoe can be worn with one sock in zero degree weather for prolonged periods of time as long as you are moving. I like that.
    2. The shoe is mostly waterproof. Sometimes there is a little that gets in in the front when you are walking through a good amount of water.
    3. The shoe is substantial. You will feel as though your feet are encased in something.
    4. the rear of the shoe is nice to my achilles tendon. some might not like this feature.
    5. The tread is substantial. The tongue is substantial.

    What could be better:
    1. The shoe wears quickly on the outside. Not too bad. I had a pair of Hi Tec Altitude IV low shoes and they lasted me six years before they wore out in the sole. I have had the Targhees for eight months and they are looking a little worn on the outside.
    2. Make sure you buy one size up. I bought a pair of thirteens and had to return for fourteens. They fit great now.
    3. The damn laces keep coming untied, so I just put knots in them.

NOTE: These are funky lookin' shoes. Be ready for that. They are heavy and big, but that is what you get with a waterproof and weatherproof shoe, so just keep it in mind.

NOTE: I just ordered another pair.

I work as a caddy and these shoes are the perfect solution to the wet spring we deal with here in the Northeast. This is my 3rd pair in the last 3 years. I average 7 plus miles a day in damp conditions and these keep my feet dry and offer incredible support.

Pretty much out-of-the-box comfortable. My third pair in three to four years. They're a decent shoe to start, but find the soles wear down pretty quick. Not terribly rugged! Tops hold up much longer than the bottoms. I'm getting about 500 miles (14-18 miles a week, mostly gravel and dirt trails) on them before I start "tiptoeing" around, feeling the gravel/pebbles under my feet. I've yet to discover a long lasting shoe in this price range, so have opted for comfort. Tried a pair of Danner "ZigZag trail" hikers after two pair of Keens, but not very comfortable and long to break-in (foot or shoe?). Maybe a bit longer wearing than Keen. I've used the older pairs of Keens for "kicking around". Easy to slip-on with loosened lacing.

I'M ON MY THIRD PAIR OF KEEN TARGHEE HIKING SHOES AND THEY HAVE BEEN SOME OF THE VERY BEST MID-WEIGHT HIKING SHOES I'VE EVER OWNED. SUPURB,COMFORTABLE FIT RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX WITH PLENTY OF TOE ROOM AND A VERY SUPPORTIVE FOOT BED AND HEEL COUNTER. THE SHANK IS FLEXIBLE ENOUGH TO FOR A GOOD PUSH OFF BUT STRONG ENOUGH TO PROTECT AGINST THE SHARPEST OF ROCKS AND SCREE ON THE TRAIL. IT FEELS LIKE YOU HAVE AN UP-ARMORED HUMVEE ON YOUR FEET. SUPPORTIVE, CUSHIONED AND PROTECTED. THE WRAP UP TOE BUMPER IS A NICE FEATURE. THESE ARE MY FAVORITE LOW RISE HIING SHOE. I'VE WORN THEM OVER MANY MILES OF VERY ROUGH TERRAIN AND NEVER ANY SORE FEET. A WINNER......
