Just so ladies with similar calves can have the specific info:
I believe the boot shaft is specified as 15.6" in circumference. There is no elastic gusset. My calves are 17" at the widest part, and now that the boots are stretched they are about the same.
I would say initially I was really happy with the fit, but over time the fit loosens. So maybe the feedback you read online is right go a half size smaller?
I really LOVE them regardless of that. The leather still looks new and holds up great in all weather types. Super easy to walk around in, and very safe (this is not the kinda heel your going to twist your ankle in). I'm an outdoor girl and I travel a lot. This works with my lifestyle.
This is like your winter alternative to the Teva sandals.
BTW these are very stylish
The boot itself is comfortable - heel is just the right height; good amount of padding. Could see wearing these all day and being comfortable. I bought the 7.5 size and it's just a hair large on me - thick socks made the fit in the foot perfect. Thick socks were not enough to "snug up" the boot shaft - I can stick my fingers easily inside the boot top. If only they were a little more snug - they'd be perfect. Love the way they look - seem like they'd be quite warm in winter, also.
Unfortunately, they are going back until I can find a boot that fits the way I like.

Really looked forward to these boots. My friends have them and they loved them. I was very disappointed in the zipper and calf. Read morePublished 15 months ago by Kaylee
I have a love/hate relationship with these boots. I always wear size 10 in Keen but these are really too big on me and often rub my feet b/c there's so much movement in the boot. Read morePublished 15 months ago by Rena Cromer

Favorite. boots. ever. I am a huge Keen fan because I have small but wide feet. I am, as always, happy with the quality of the leather, color, and fit. Read morePublished 17 months ago by Cass!
Size is fine but shaft is extra wide--if you have average size calves, this is not the boot for you! Live Keena, but just because I wear a size 11 doesn't mean I have wise calves!Published 17 months ago by Miriam Schuman
I read many reviews on these boots. As they were mixed, did not know what to expect. I love these boots. I have larger calves so I did not know if fit would be an issue or not. Read morePublished 19 months ago by sam
