I ordered them in the madder brown color because I wanted a red shoe and they look more brown than red in person but they are a pretty color. Definitely keepers but probably won't work if you have fat feet.
As for the color and style, I did really like these shoes. The neutral gray color would match a lot of different outfits, but is a nice departure from just plain old black. They style itself is very versatile, and while its a primarily a casual style, I think you could dress it up a bit too (which is always good for city dwellers and other women who need practical, but still good-looking, shoes).
I love this shoe sooO much. I can wear it with my best dress, or pajamas. Holey jeans or gardening. I got the neutral gray and it really is. With beige pants it warms up to bone. Or you can bring up the cooler tones which is about 90% of my closet. The leather is very soft and and I hope I can find a darker pair and maybe finished a bit more. The soft leathers are the nicest, but the most vulnerable to weather.
Some reviewers said it was stiff and too high and tight in the ankles. The first thing I do when I pick up a shoe is bend it in half. I just sent back two pairs of Born's because I could not get a fit. They looked very soft but were stiff and failed the bend test. I felt like I was back in the days of the wooden soles and clogs. The molded sole would not bend an inch, inflexible. Anklebreakers.
I almost didn't order because many reviewers said it was stiff and uncomfortable. We all have different feet, I had to remind myself and probably the article of clothing that most suffers from this (irregularities) are the feet, not the product! To me they are heavenly, and I understand to many they are a one star.
I'd give more than 5 if I could. I'll stock up so I'll always have a pair. I had a couple of pairs of Borns last a decade, I loved those shoes. Not anymore!
