They are very light weight, stylish, and my feet were not sore at the end of a long work day. I live in Montana and work outside at times during the winter. My feet were warm and completely dry; thru snow all day. They arrived on time and have exceeded my expectations. I have received many compliments on them, and have noticed many others looking. They just might be the first ones in Gallatin County. I highly recommend these boots.
Pros: warm, accurate sizing, room for insoles and/or thicker socks, lightweight, stylish, mostly waterproof, and comfortable.
Cons: not 100% waterproof for deeper snow, needs an insole (but what boot doesn't?), a little on the short side, not the greatest traction on ice, pretty stiff at first, and if you don't have them tightened properly they will flop around.
I wore them during a two-day snow storm, walking 14 miles each day and my feet stayed dry, but the upper part of the boot leaked a little causing my ankles to get wet. I have pretty muscular calves and these work for me, I would not however recommend them to anyone with wider calves. These are perfect for anyone like myself who is active outside, I am confident they will last awhile. For anyone who is concerned about arch support, they provide some and would probably be fine for a short walk, but given how much I walk in a day, I always put insoles in my shoes and my feet feel fine after a long day.
I included photos to show the keen quality, they look brand new on the bottom after 100 miles. Also the warmth factor.
They are very attractive and not too bulky. I love the red detailing - and the mix of colors on the boot - brown, black, tan, gray, off-white - blend together subtely yet allow them to "match" coats of any of those colors if you like matching. I have a red coat and an off-white coat and they looked like they went with each coat. But again, the colors are very subtle together so they would look fine with anything.
I chose these thinking they would be best for winter sports like snow-shoeing and they did great when we went snow-shoeing! My feet stayed warm and dry and did not get sore at all after hours of snow-shoeing in Rocky Mountain National park.
I have a really high instep which makes my foot tall on top and I especially have trouble finding boots that fit over that part of my foot. These boots fit perfectly - as do the keen hiking shoes and boots with this same toe box. I wear them with (not thick) wool socks and I have plenty of room in them. I don't own super thick socks (since they usually won't fit in my shoes with my foot, lol!) , so not sure about those and the fit.
I am also overweight, and even with larger legs, these laced up great, were still attractive, and kept me dry. For example, in dress boots, I would wear a wide-calf. If you are skinny, these lace to your legs too, obviously! ;) These boots are very streamlined for a sportier boot - for any snow boot really - they have a sleek profile.
My favorite thing about these boots is that they not only lace-up for the perfect fit, but once you get them laced, they have a side zipper that makes them soooo easy to slip into on the run.
I did not have an occasion to have my feet covered in snow for any length of time beyond a half hour or so, but I believe that if you have these laced correctly, you would stay dry in them. The tongue is semi-connected to the sides, so there's not a lot of room for snow to get in unless you laced very carelessly. The zipper has pieces around it on the interior so that snow doesn't get in there.
I was also worried when I bought them about the leather getting discolored or stained once it had gotten wet, but that hasn't happened. They still look great! I expect these boots will last me several winters, at least. That's the best thing about shoes, right? Your size doesn't fluctuate like your clothes size, lol. These boots are a great investment - I'm so glad I chose these!
They are extraordinarily comfortable (like the targhee) and attractive. When I say fits as expected I mean it fits as you would expect your keen to fit... so order a size up!
