This was an easy read and despite the fact that it was slow at times and seem to run on, I enjoyed reading about the duties a soldier in the field has to go thru to keep not only his charges safe but himself. I really couldn't connect with Katie and thought she was a bit whiney.
I'm intrigued to see where this story goes and if they can make it work. But I'm hoping that this handsome Scotsman finds love elsewhere. Kudos on your first book!
Looking forward to reading Russian Roulette.
There is only one other author I've read of the 800 on my Kindle that make you apart of the action while it is happening and that is Sharon Hamilton and her books about Navy SEALs.
You are with Scott in the middle of Baghdad, in a firefight. You are hiding in an alley facing down bad guys. This writer has it. He has lived it. You can feel what he feels and see what he sees. This male - this man writes HOT, erotic sex scenes. Women you will need a cold shower after reading some of the scenes in this book. Men, this book is for you also. See what it's like to be a bodyguard in Baghdad.
I disagree with some of the reviews here in regards to Katie. She is a single mom with two daughters and an ex who only wants to give her a hard time. This book is about Scott, a fictionalized piece of his life. Katie is secondary to the main character.
To Scott - I say HOORAH! You have a hit here. Not everyone will like it. No one likes every book, but it will appeal to many. And I look forward to reading more.
A man of honor, putting himself in hostile territory for the woman he loves...read this book and find out what happens. I guarantee you will love it and read it again!
This story is grat for men and women to read, especially those of you whom have just returned from either Iraq or Afghanistan. Scott, the main character in this book is a Scottish man who served for the Queen's Army in Afghanistan, after a serious injury and recovery he came to the United States to get back on his feet. He has met Katie, a beautiful sensual woman and they plan on building a life together, but in able to do so, Scott takes on a job with a security group and is sent to Baghdad, in the green zone. Not only is he facing danger with his job, but the client he was been hired to protect has got her eyes set on him and tries to no acpvail to seduce him. This is when you learn of how true a character Scott is, a man of honor & truth and one that is faithful.
To read more about this man that is strong, courages and full of integretity, download this book and read it. You will fall in live with his character, you will hear his Scottish accent in his writing too.
Find a comfy corner, get a glass of wine and enjoy this book!!!
I have to be completely honest here, this is probably the only romance book I have ever read that I skipped the biggest majority of the sex scenes. It's not that they aren't well written, because they are, it's just not what I focused on. I focused more on Scott's story in the Middle East and how he protected Britney. I really sympathized more with him than any other character in the story. He was a character that you wanted to root for. Scott had to overcome so many obstacles in his life and he never let any of them get him down. He was a fighter! Scott did everything he had to do to provide for his girlfriend Katie and her daughters. Now, with saying that, Katie drove me nuts. I'll let you have your own opinion of her, but that's just mine. I don't want to sway your judgment at all, but let's just say that she really tried my patience. My heart really went out to Scott and ladies, let's be honest, who wouldn't want some strong, Scottish soldier totally devoted to us? Count me in. Overall, it was a very nice, easy read.
Scott Maclaren is a former British Special Forces soldier who was badly injured on a tour of duty in Afghanistan. He suffered many injuries, including a broken back. He was paralyzed and couldn't walk. As a great deal of the book is based on the author's past experiences, we are immediately drawn in to Scott's world. In addition to the severe injuries, his wife walks out on him and files for divorce the minute he is able to be transported back to the UK. We feel the heartbreak and betrayal. We want him to triumph and find happiness. It takes three years, but he is finally able to walk again.
The book actually begins when he travels to the U.S. to visit relatives. He meets and falls in love with Katie and her 2 daughters. To secure their financial future, he takes on a 6 month bodyguard contract in Baghdad. He is assigned to protect a young American woman working there. So the book covers a long distance relationship set in a dangerous background with a bit of a third party trying to nudge her way in! Sound like fun? It is!
