Amazon needs to consider better protection for fragile items when they ship.
This is a sharpening stone not different from other sharpening stones, so you don't need instruction.
However, it's easier for us to use it right if instruction is included.
I believe the manufacturer doesn't intend to export their products overseas, so only instruction written in Japanese is included.
Here is the English translation:
1. Soak it in water for about 3 minutes before use.
2. Use it as illustrated.
3. Sharpen both sides for double edged knives.
Sharpen only one side for single edged knives.
4. After sharpening, the little piece called "Kaeri" is formed along edges.
To fix this, lightly sharpen the other side for 2-3 times (strokes).
Note: Be very careful when you check Kaeri.
Don't rinse dirty water while sharpening. Add more water as it needs.
If the surface of the stone become uneven, wrap a piece of wood with #100 sand paper or water-resident paper and make it flat.
Watered flat surface of concrete works as well.
After use, rinse it thoroughly. Avoid direct Sun light and dry it.
If your knife is chipped, you should start with #400 sharpening stone, then move on to this product.
I usually sharpen my knife for about 2 minutes each side. (2min x 4 = 8min)
At 6000 you're really honing and fine tuning and at 1000 you're removing a bit of material. If you really want to remove more material from your blade or get to a sharp edge faster you might want a different grit.
This is a wetstone so you should use some water when you sharpen your blade.
It comes from Japan I think and there are absolutely zero instructions. I do love the nice wood base it comes with and it comes with a plastic case that I use to keep it but I flip the case upside down and tied a rubber band around the plastic case to prevent the stone from slipping out and breaking
Spent a lot of time reviewing videos for techniques and practiced a lot with some old kitchen knives we gave up on years ago. Have been able to resurrect those old knives to razor sharp cutting.
As my technique became better with practice, I used the KING stone on several of my older EDC knives that were hopelessly dull. To my surprise, both are now razor sharp and I have two big hairless patches on my forearm where I tested! It will grow back!
Definitely money well spent. I've also sharpened our inexpensive kitchen knives. Each knife takes about 20-30 minutes, on a dull knife. I know it's getting sharper when my upper back muscles start getting sore.
This is a true 1k/6k stone, being that I use a variety of knives from everything from food prep, to skinning animals this stone helps me keep all my knives sharp. Everything from 10" blades down to 3" blades. The only reason I'm giving this 4/5 instead of 5/5 is because is because the instructions are in Japanese, but what should expect from a Japanese product. However it's nothing a quick Google search can't teach you. Great product, would recommend.
this is sure not gonna be as good as those artisan whetstone from japanese craft shops.
but for starters, this is the best buy. extremely good value.
and for picky customers like me... the base is plastic instead of wood.
