This title is about Major Alistair Meath who was involved in the accident in space. He has returned to Earth, but not the same as he was before. In fact, he's not even conscious when we meet him. He's hidden away and hooked up to a machine being fed simulations. He is starting to have control over the simulations though, and there is a group of people who are after his hidden location for their own reasons.
I've read a few titles in the Catalyst Prime universe, and, to be honest, none of them are all that great, but a few have been fun. What I did like in this one was the old style superhero comic style of Major Meath's subconscious world. The art was ok, but a bit too angular for my liking.
I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Oni Press, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

The book introduces us to British Major Alistair Meath, a man trapped in his own mind, where he is the superhero called KINO - Kinetic! Impulse! Neoterrestrial! Operative! In essence the book is a story within a story - think Sentry meets Inception in some ways. It is very much high concept, and therein lies its biggest problem. Inception worked across a couple of hours as the audience was drawn deeper into the layers of the mind, working back up through those layers to create tension. For serial fiction this premise falls flat as the arc is not an obvious one. What that means is our nominal point of view protagonist is a British intelligence agent named Devlin Gilmour, a man determined to recover Major Meath after Meath's comatose body is kidnapped.
We get some world-building for the Catalyst Prime universe in terms of players, but little in the way of satisfactory conclusion for a four issue story. the status quo within Meath/KINO's mind-scape does advance, however the overall status quo is that after 4 chapters we don't really yet have the principle character as a principal actor in his own tale.
The art is very much stylised throughout, and this will be polarising i suspect for some readers.
Overall, I think KINO has some neat conceits, but is let down by its execution in terms of story structure in terms of the 4 chapters collected in the book. In essence it felt like extended set-up and not much more. I will try the next volume in hope that the story kicks forward and we do get to see KINO as an active part of the Catalyst Prime universe.
