I'll attempt to explain that I don't believe this was user error: I was attempting to use this with BMW Standard Tools on a 2010 BMW.
First, I made sure I had the port set correctly - both in OBD.INI and the other initialization files. I tried multiple ports for the driver install, making sure I used the same USB port on a 32-bit version of Windows 7 - no luck. I went as far as rolling back the driver for the FTDI chip, which I assumed to be counterfeit. That still didn't work. After multiple installations of INPA (the included CD was an old incomplete version of the software) and hours wasted trying to get this cheap cable to work, I gave up. This cable has the white PC board inside, the LED words fine, and all the soldering looks fine.
I got this cable because I didn't want to spend $100 on the One Stop Electronics cable, and I eventually found the BimmerSoftware . com cable for $45 shipped, which worked perfectly the first time I used it.
Software loading is a bit cumbersome. Some of the menus are in German. I was able to reset codes and see a bunch of other diagnostic info. I am sure there are easier ways but it works.
People who say the white board is not for BMW are not correct in my case.
