Well, minor problem. He liked it far too much. At first, it became a place to "bury" things (read: set bone down on grass, then push repeatedly in that general direction). When I put it in my car, in case he needed it during a long trip, that's when he discovered how comfortable it could be as a rug... a darn-near $20 rug, that is! Geez. Well, anyway, it's a good fit for his size, he enjoys the feel of it against his paws, he finds pleasure lying on it during warm days, and at least he uses it. And I'll ride with that.
****Updated 5 days after getting our puppy. I was surprised how quickly she caught on to going here in the litter box on the fake grass. I put a pee pad under it and change it about every other day (my dog is 4 pounds). I did wash it already and it was easy to wash, especially with the litter pan. It was not as gross as I thought it would be either. My puppy has had a few accidents peeing outside of the box but has never pooped outside of this box. I would call that a great success!
I am hoping that I can also train the puppy to go outside and only use this box in case of an emergency (I am stuck in traffic, etc.). However, not sure if this is possible yet. It is a good solution right now though having a small almost hairless puppy during an Iowa winter to potty train.
Now, it does hold odor but once every three days or so, I roll it up and soak it in bleachwater for about 20 minutes or so. It hasn't lost any color, only maybe one or two strands of "grass" have come off when I first opened the box, and it works as I intended. If you are wanting to use it as a rug or something, I dunno much in that regard.
The color as pictured is pretty spot on, it is a nice vibrant green. The backing is sturdy and it doesn't show any signs of failing anytime soon, which is a good testament to it's durability, I'd say, what with being peed on at least 6x a day and washed repeatedly, plus bleach baths. It's a tough little rug!
