KLOUT SCORE: Social Media Influence, ISBN 9781626758391, e-book by Susan Gilbert is a complete little `no nonsense' book that provides specifics about this latest marketing tool.
As the author points out, the importance of being able to exert influence no doubt is as old as man but the essentials probably were set forth best by the hugely popular Dale Carnegie book in 1937. These were followed by Cialdini's `scientific' examination of the psychological bases of persuasion in 2006 and ultimately in 2009 Brogan and Smith offered plausible suggestions for extending to the Web methods "To Build Influence, Improve Reputation and Earn Trust."
Because these endeavors are only as good as their results, there is a need to know the degree of their effectiveness. This is the function of Klout which Susan describes as "basically an authoritative tool that people and businesses use in order to decide that they will trust and work with you". She then offers a simple explanation of the range of measurements of the numerous different factors and influences that are factored into subsequent calculations to ultimately produce a `number of social prominence'. The importance of this number, because of the amount of stress businesses are placing upon it, Susan believes cannot be overemphasized. Therefore, she provides a step by step procedure to incorporate the technique into one's supply of resources, provides methods of circumventing a few limitations inherent in the tool for greater effectiveness, and adds numerous tips to further extend its usefulness. She then expands her discussion with a description and explanation of the next step - KRED - and explains why this is perhaps a necessary further extension for maximum exposure.
In summary, this `no nonsense' book provides the rationale behind, extreme importance of, and perhaps more importantly, step by step instructions for inclusion of, KLOUT SCORE in your armamentarium along with numerous tips about how to maximize the use for your personal gain. I should recommend highly this little book by this recognized media marketing authority. Reviewed by John H. Manhold, award winning fiction/non-fiction author.
