update: I have had it for a month an a half now, and it still works. Glad I bought it. I go through the official headphones so quickly that I just got tired of spending 20 bucks on them each time one breaks.
Update: It has been about 4 months and it is still working just fine. I am very pleased considering how much cheaper this was than the officials.
Update: I have had these for 6 months and they are still working to my surprise. These are probably hit or miss, but I am very happy with this purchase. I have replaced 4 sets of the official headsets, so spending 5 dollars and having it last this long is great.
Update: It has been just under a year. The headphones still work, but they just started occasionally making a slight buzzing noise that the party can hear. The noise goes away if I unplug and plug them back in. When these do become unusable I will buy another pair of the same set because of the price.
But, this headset is so cheap that i bought my friends a pair, and i can hear them perfectly 100% clear through my headphone setup. In fact, i have the mic moved as far away from my mouth as possible because other players using just the headset to talk say that my mic is too loud, and they can hear me breath and swollow.. After asking the people i can and can't hear what headsets they use, the majority comes down to: The $20 microsoft headsets are the ones that are too quiet for me to hear, and the Turtle beach headphones are usually the ones i can hear fine..
So, for $8, you can buy this headset which is better than the $20 microsoft headset, and has the same quality mic as an $80 turtle beach headset.. This is a great great product, and its even greater considering the price. If you're debating if you should buy this or a different headset, buy this.. unless you wanna be fancy and buy a headset that routes game audio along with live audio all thru the same unit, otherwise this works great, either by itself, or coupled with regular headphones like i use..
I'll give it a 2 star and keep it because it served the primary function.
The ear piece is also small and hard. After a few hours of game play your ear will begin to hurt. Hey good thin it's a mono-ear piece so you have a spare ear to switch to--NOT!! This headset does NOT allow you to bend the mic the other way so you HAVE to use it on your right ear only. The original 360 headset you can rotate the mic so you can wear your headset on either ear. Not this one. If you can't hear a thing in your right ear, well, this one is not for lefty's.
Short review can be summed up into the following pros/cons
-I can hear everything
-Doesn't cut out while chatting
-The plastic is so cheap that I feel like I have to be incredibly careful
-The mic picks up on any wind/ambiance/sound nearby.
Overall, I like it. I'm not a picky spender, but if you have the money I recommend a Microsoft official or Turtle Beach.
The mic had a flimsy cord, feels like it could easily snap at the slightest snag, especially really close to the part that plugs into the controller.
