This book may have come out eons ago, however I just recently received it from my sister who gave me her now grown son's K'Nex collection. (Until I actually started playing with K'nex with my 4YO son, I never realized the fun and smart factor involved with this type of building sets.) This book "K'Nex Book of Big Ideas" really helped me to get started building cars, trucks, rockets, and other fun toys for my little boy while at the same time learn the potential of K'Nex. Each time I build a new, more elaborate project for my son, the more I learn the different ways I can use K'Nex. Word of caution...building with K'Nex can be addicting...this book only helps the addiction move along.

The only fault I have against this book is that sometime the diagrams are a bit hard to understand what is actually pictured. The drawings are drawn in 3-D and in color, but there's not much depth perception to them so sometimes I wonder what direction some of the pieces face or where to actually connect them.

Projects included in the book start with super simple (keychains), to useful(tie rack, kitchen and desk accessories you can actually use), to some pretty sophisticated toys (working fishing rod, bull dozers, viking ship, etc.) There are also a few motorized projects to do as well. Lots of ideas to glean from! In addition, they include photos of some pretty huge and elaborate projects K'Nex customers have actually built on their own. More inspiration to be had there.

This morning I finished building a heavy hauler and trailer detailed in this book (my son wanted me to build Optimus Prime...this was as close as I could get it right now) and I was just plain impressed with the design and function once it was completed. And my son can play with it!

Got this book for my 8 year old and he disappeared in his room and didn't come out for hours. It really helped him to expand his thinking regarding what was possible to build with his K'nex. The best part is the book is not necessarily full of step by step instructions but offers many springboards to either emulate or further develop. Some of the creations in the book are so huge that no kid would probably have enough K'nex in their possession to build and might cause kids to be a little envious so took off one star for that.

This is an outstanding book and so very simple to use! I'm working with 4th and 5th grade boys and girls and it's amazing how quickly they pick up the patterns and construction concept!! Loaded with so many creative and fun project, this book is a must for the Knex user at any age or ability level.

The book had lots of ideas for building but not one direction- hard to tell what some of the pieces should be. I was looking for something more detailed, much more detailed.
