Gets the job done efficiently
A Photo is only as good as the one you're able to take. So here's a compact "manual" scanner to get the job done. It doesn't need to be hooked up to a computer - just need an SD card and you can sit on your couch while you start scanning everything in.-Comes with trays for all types of slides and you hand feed each one pressing the scan button when it looks centered on the screen.-The screen options are very simple and easy to navigate.-Box comes with literally everything you need (too much I think) - even foreign plug adapters you're paying extra for that you'll never use.-You can scan in negatives as well as color slides - just select it in the menu. It will process the negatives in color.-Value is good for what you get but depends what you want - keep reading...Here's the negative (pun intended): The 22Megapixel from this scanner is "large" but not as sharp when compared to a scanned (1200dpi) developed photo. For general viewing and small prints is fine but don't expect archival quality. If you truly want to permanently digitally archive those old slides (for any future use), then this isn't the product. This product is essentially a cheap digital camera in a slide-tray housing - NOT a flatbed scanner. If you have a good smartphone, I bet it could take better pictures - though more cumbersome to manipulate.(The photo shows the 1200dpi scan of the negative (left) with the 22MP "scan" of the slide (right) with a detail section to show the zoomed-in difference).BUT - what is positive is that you are scanning in the raw un-developed slide so for dark images where details are lost in processing (high contrast etc), you WILL see more details! So the attached photo is for well-lit scenes - not dark and dingy places where old 35mm cameras didn't perform well in.All that to say - know what you need and buy accordingly.Oh - and this is a one and done type of purchase. Once you use it - it'll rot on your shelf with the VHS player, BetaMax, the slide projector, the CD player, the DVD player, the BluRay player, the cassette player, the laser disk player, and all the cell phones from years of yore... so buy it used instead for probably 1/2 the price and pass it along when you're done.... don't add to your tech hoarding - you really won't need it.
Thank you for your feedback

Got the SCANZA the other day and started using it. There’s a short learning curve because it’s all pretty much intuitive. Started on some very old (mid-1950s) family 135nm slides, which are a bit thicker than newer ones. Being thicker I had to push the slides a little harder to get them through the shuttle, but it worked. And the JPEG images are really good. Got the hang of it after a dozen or so slides and now I’m a whiz at it, having done maybe a hundred in a couple of days. In a week or so I’ll try moving on to old 35mm negatives. Definitely recommend the SCANZA.

First off, for the price, this item is absolutely getting the job done. Cleaning out my parents house, my Dad had 10's of thousands of slides and negatives. What I thought was going to be a multi-year project, is going extremely fast. Insert slides from the right, and they push out to the left. The large screen provides an excellent view screen so I know what to capture, and what to skip. I would recommend this product for anyone in a similar situation, who wants to achieve old family slides and negatives. I was particularly delighted that the imbedded software has functions for Positive slides, as well as color and black/white negatives.
My problems are (1) In settings, you cannot set the date, so all my slides look like they are being uploaded in 2007. (2) The manual says it is Mac/PC compatible, yet, my Mac does recognize it, and I cannot transfer directly to my computer hard drive. I have to load everything onto a SD Card (not provided), and then insert the card into my Mac to transfer and organize the images. (3) The plastic trays are not well made. Slides will go in, and then jam, as if the tray slot is ever so slightly narrower on the left, than the right. This is difficult, since the cardboard slide mounts in the 40's is thicker than slide mounts of the 70's The tray causes a jam, so I have to pull the tray out, manually unjam the slides, and then continue. It could be worse, but it could also be a lot better. I did expect a better product if it's going to have the Kodak name on it.

I did a fair bit of experimenting with this over a couple of days. First, let's note a few things.

1) This is not a Kodak product. Whoever is making this is merely licensing the Kodak name.

2) This is NOT a scanner. It projects an image of your slide or negative and takes a digital photo of it.

3) This has both 14MB and 22MB resolution. But the 22MB resolution is merely a software rescaling of the 14MB version, and doesn't do anything for the quality.

4) Once you get used to the menus and controls, the unit is fairly easy to set up.

5) The user manual is all but worthless. It is thick, so you think at first sight that is fairly extensive, but it is not. What you have is 27 pages in English (of which 2 are introductory material and 4 are warranty information, and the remainder of the manual is the French, German, Italian, and Spanish versions of that. There is NO description of any of the cables included. You'll learn more by simply playing around with it than you ever will by reading the manual.

6) Others have said that you have to removed the 35MM slide holder every time you want to scan a new slide. My experience is that you can simply push in a new slide from the right, and it will push out the current slide. The 35MM slide holder will hold two slides at the end, so you will need to remove it to get the last two slides out.

7) The 35MM negative holder is not well designed. You can insert a negative strip from the right, but it hangs up on the left side where the film strip is supposed to exit. So you have to pull the negative carrier out, insert the negative manually into the exit on the left, close the carrier, reinsert it, scan pictures 2-5, and then pull the negative strip all the way to the right to get a shot of the first picture on the negative strip. This also requires you to remove the negative carrier each time, which is another opportunity for dust to enter the scanner.

8) To get a clean "scan" you have to remove all dust from the bottom of the device. A tool is included for doing that, but it does not work well. It tends to just move the dust around, rather than remove it. If there is a way to clean the duster tool, I couldn't figure it out, and the manual is silent about it. The manual does warn against using any sort of compressed air, which only makes sense, since you are likely to just blow dust further into the device. To top it off, the soft, feltlike portion of the cleaning want came loose after about 5 uses.

9) The power cord is short—less than 1 meter. If you don't use an extension cord, you will be doing all of your scans sitting on the floor up against the wall.

10) As others have pointed out, there are no instructions for how to hook this up to your television. I did not try this, but if you are technically proficient, you can probably figure this out. On the other hand, if your VCR just blinks 12:00 all day, you'll probably need some assistance.

11) All of the slide and film carriers feel cheaply made. I can't open or close one without feeling like I'm going to break it. If you buy this to scan some 35MM slides and you break the slide holder, it's now a paperweight, since there is no mention of where to buy replacement holders.

12) Despite trying for 3 hours, I cannot get this to scan 8MM film. (This does not convert 8MM film to a movie file; rather, it will allow you to capture individual frames as still images.) No matter how I inserted the film or adjusted the settings, I could not get an even remotely clear image of an 8MM film frame. This was a major disappointment.

Because of all the issues I've mentioned above, I returned this device. I have thousands of slides and negative to scan. This unit is simply not for me. The quality is not great enough to print 8x10 or larger enlargements.

If you are more concerned with preserving memories, rather than quality, this unit will probably work for you. If you want to make some 3x5 or 4x6 prints, you can probably achieve that. If you have plenty of time, this unit will work for you.

But if you need quality scans that are actual scans, this will not work for you. If you want to print quality enlargements, this is not the unit for you. If you want to scan a large number of slides and negatives, this unit is too slow for that.

This device digitalizes slides and 35 mm negatives quickly and easily. I haven’t tried other formats.
Quality is quite acceptable, but I’ll need to adjust some photos in Photoshop, since not all negatives were optimal to begin with.
My advice is not to rely 100% on the viewer screen since you won’t see any small dust particles which will pollute the digitalized image, and you will have to do these over. A monitor is helpful, in this respect.
Clean the films, avoid dust, and keep the cleaning brush handy.
It is a remarkable, reasonably priced, little invention.
I just wish the delivery man didn’t simply leave it sitting out on the front porch.
