UPDATE: Well, just as I thought, after the second treat session the toy was completely destroyed. Not safe. See third picture below....
Contacted KONG directly, no reply.
The bone was bigger than I expected, the large size is almost as big as the bones in my forearm (from my wrist to my elbow). Our dogs like it so much that even when the treats are gone (an hour or so later) they keep chewing on it for 3-4 more hours. I just ordered another one, since we have two dogs. That way they will stop fighting over it… and it is cleaning their teeth while they’re spending hours eating a treat that they would normally just inhale in 1 second.
The “Beggin Strips” treats that look like a piece of bacon fit in there with no problem, but are a little bit easy to get out and the dog doesn’t spend as much time figuring out how to get the treat out of the bone. The “Pedigree Mini MarroBones” are better. They are a tight squeeze, but they will fit and it keeps the dog busier for a lot longer time.
The best thing about this toy is that it is made of rubber, so it doesn't leave dents and scratches in my hardwood floor when the dogs play too rough with it.
My puppies are pretty aggressive with their chewing and I have one of these in red and black, and both have held up very well! Throw them through the dish washer, and they look good as new.
To be honest, I bought it for my 5 year old German Shepherd who liked and used it just fine. He chewed on it NO problem until the Husky stole it.
And full disclosure- the Husky did still have super sharp teeth when I adopted him so it was like a hot knife thru butter.
I now buy the black, KONG extreme toys or toys that are big enough that he cant get to the back of his mouth where the guillotine teeth are.
I like to switch off between stuffing them with wet dog food and/or peanut butter and then freezing them or a few treats large enough to squeeze in...
Durable and have stayed strong! I have 2 Australian Shepherds. While I don't know how well they would stand up to strong chewers, I'd say they get a pretty good beating from use in our house and so far so good!
<3 you KONG!
